| Personal History | Jason was born in the small town of Fredericksburg , Texas, on Earth and was raised there until his parents divorced when he was twelve. As a child he spent almost all of his time with his twin brother, David, but when the divorce became obviously necessary he found himself on the opposite side from David, wishing to stay with his mother as she left Earth to pursue a more meaningful role in Starfleet. He soon found himself living on a starbase far from Earth and learning more about life and the Federation than he’d ever dreamed possible. Because of the stress of leaving everything he’d known before behind Jason found himself in the awkward position of becoming a problem child. When he began to enter his teenage years this grew worse, until one day a new man came into his life. James Martin, a retired Intelligence Officer, was the Chief of Security on the starbase Jason and his mother were living on and he took young Jason under his wing, realizing that the thirteen year old boy needed quite a bit of looking after if he was going to succeed in life. A few weeks later, Jason found himself in the Security office, his mother sitting beside him as James explained his latest bout of shenanigans and what the possible consequences were. That fateful encounter began a love affair between Jason’s mother and the man who would become his step father and closest friend. Three years later James sponsored Jason when he applied for admission to Starfleet Academy and wrote a letter of recommendation for him to join the Intelligence division, using his past service in the Intelligence division to open a few doors that Jason’s past might have kept firmly slammed in his face. He watched with pride, alongside Angelique, as Jason made his way through the Academy and proved that he could overcome his awkward past and make a real man out of himself. Four years later, at the age of twenty Jason walked across the stage as a graduate of Starfleet Academy and a fresh assignment already in the bag. His mother and step-father, as well as his father and twin brother watched with tears in their eyes as he accepted his diploma and stepped down to greet them. He was onboard the USS Huntington when he received news that he was going to have a new baby sister, his mother, recently remarried to James, was pregnant with a baby girl. A few months later she was born and he was granted leave to go home to see her. His leave didn’t last long and he was recalled to active duty, though his assignment was changed, this time landing him aboard the USS Lusitania, a reconnaissance ship patrolling the Cardassian border. During this tour of duty was when Jason really brought his a game and showed Starfleet he had what it took to do his job right. While routinely researching those people aboard the ship he was able to discover a member of the Cardassian Obsidian Order onboard the ship. She had somehow come aboard at the last stop over at a starbase and had gone undetected for several weeks. This discovery ended in a bit of a firefight and with Jason spending nearly a week in Sickbay recovering from the stab wound he received, but in the end it served to further his career. Jason went on to serve in varying capacities for the next few years, both on board ships and also on various stations and even planets, both as an officer and as an intelligence operative, before finally hearing of a posting that truly interested him. In the wake of the disastrously horrific Dominion War the Federation was still putting feelers out into the Gamma Quadrant to see what new and interesting things were to be found. Jason’s natural curiosity drew him inexorably towards the idea of going beyond anything previously discovered and finding new things to see and experience. He began to research the positions available and stumbled upon a stroke of good luck, the USS Black Hawk, with a newly promoted Commanding Officer and no XO she sounded like an amazing opportunity to finally start making his way towards a command of his own. |
