| Physical Description | Aidan is of average height and build, with brown hair, blue eyes, and an athletic tone that he maintains without making much of it. He carries himself with the quiet confidence of someone who has lived a long time without feeling the need to prove it. | General Overview | Aidan possesses many of the qualities traditionally associated with the El-Aurian people. He is personable, sociable, observant, and, above all, a listener. But listening is only half of what Aidan does; he watches. When among groups, Aidan has a habit of quietly observing the people around him. He notices their mannerisms, expressions, interactions, habits, and the subtle ways they respond to one another. He is rarely judgmental about what he sees. Instead, he is curious. People fascinate him, and he has spent much of his exceptionally long life learning that no individual is quite as simple as they first appear. Despite being 209 years old, Aidan remains relatively young by El-Aurian standards. His centuries of experience have given him a broad perspective, but they have not convinced him that he has seen everything. Quite the opposite. Aidan retains a genuine sense of wonder about the universe and approaches unfamiliar people, cultures, and civilizations with the humility of someone who knows there is always more to learn. He is very much a gentleman, possessing the manners and sensibilities of an older era without being trapped by them. Courtesy comes naturally to him. He is attentive, respectful, and often surprisingly formal in small matters. At the same time, there is a roguish streak beneath the gentlemanly exterior. Aidan enjoys playful teasing, a little theatricality, and the occasional unexpected bit of mischief. He is rarely the loudest person in a room because he doesn't need to be. His humor tends to be understated, warm, and occasionally mischievous. He is perfectly capable of laughing at himself and has little interest in maintaining an air of solemn dignity simply because he is old. Above all, Aidan genuinely cares about people. His profession may be the study of alien civilizations, but his fascination has never been limited to ruins, artifacts, or academic papers. He wants to understand the people who built those civilizations; their beliefs, traditions, relationships, fears, celebrations, and reasons for becoming what they are. For Aidan, curiosity is not merely an academic trait; it is a way of living. For many years, Aidan allowed romance to fall by the wayside. His longevity had made relationships with shorter-lived species complicated. More than one woman had eventually ended a relationship after confronting the reality that Aidan would continue aging at a dramatically different rate. He has heard variations of the same concerns more than once. "I want someone to grow old with, not grow old around." Or, "You'll just leave me when I start getting older than you anyway, so let's break it off now." Aidan understood their fears, even when they hurt; he never became bitter about them. Instead, he simply stopped expecting romance to be something that would last. All of that changed when he met Mila Rasputin. What began as a chance meeting on New Risa gradually became a genuine partnership. Mila was willing to see Aidan's longevity not as an obstacle, but as part of the man she loved. Their relationship developed through friendship, affection, humor, and mutual respect before eventually becoming something far deeper. Aidan remains an attentive and distinctly old-fashioned romantic. He enjoys the small gestures of affection; the courtesy, the teasing, the little rituals, and the simple act of making someone feel cared for. His romantic manner can occasionally be theatrical, but never insincere. With Mila, he finally found someone with whom he could imagine not merely experiencing life, but building one. Aidan does not believe science is simply the accumulation of answers. To him, science begins with curiosity and humility. He is particularly wary of imposing Federation assumptions upon cultures that developed independently. An unfamiliar custom may seem irrational until the history behind it is understood. A society that appears primitive may possess knowledge that the Federation has forgotten. An artifact may be meaningless without the culture that created it. Aidan's instinct is therefore to observe first, ask questions second, and judge only when absolutely necessary. He believes exploration should mean encountering the unknown on its own terms, rather than forcing it to conform to what the explorer already understands. Aidan has lived long enough to understand that nothing remains unchanged forever. He’s watched people grow old. He’s seen civilizations rise and disappear. He’s watched cultures adapt, fracture, merge, and sometimes vanish entirely. The destruction of El-Auria remains part of his history, but it does not define his entire identity. Aidan's response to loss has been neither bitterness nor withdrawal. It has been curiosity. He continues to meet people, form friendships, and explore. He understands that attachment inevitably creates the possibility of loss, but he considers that an acceptable price for having something worth losing. He knows that things don't last, but he loves them anyway. |

| Personal History | Aidan was born on El-Auria in 2180. When he was old enough to begin working, he started in his father's veterinary office. Aidan was responsible for patient care and ensuring that the animals received everything they needed. The experience gave him an early appreciation for living things and fostered an interest in biology that would eventually contribute to his later studies in xenobiology and microbiology. At the age of eighty-five, in 2265, Aidan's life changed forever. The Borg launched an offensive against El-Auria, assimilating all but a handful of its inhabitants. Aidan and his family were among those who escaped the destruction. Like many of the surviving El-Aurians, they scattered throughout the galaxy in search of safety and a place to rebuild their lives. Their journey eventually brought them toward the Alpha Quadrant. In 2293, Aidan and his family were among those rescued from the Nexus by the USS Enterprise-B. Along with the other refugees, the Crehan family was brought to Earth. For Aidan, arriving on Earth was both a beginning and an education. For the next two years, Aidan worked at Kenah Korner, a rare and antiquarian bookstore and library owned and operated by an El-Aurian couple who had also survived the destruction of their home-world and been rescued alongside the Crehan family. Those two years were a period of settling in for the Crehan family. For Aidan, they were a period of learning. He read extensively, purchased books when he could, and borrowed even more. Surrounded by history, stories, and the accumulated knowledge of countless cultures, Aidan began to realize that the destruction of El-Auria did not have to mean the end of his curiosity about civilization. If anything, it made him more determined to understand it. Eventually, Aidan began traveling. 2295–2362, Risa Aidan's first major extended stay was on Risa. “I have been to Risa once before, however; it was a long time ago.” He remained there for approximately sixty-seven years, immersing himself in Risan culture and way of life. His studies were not confined to formal academics. He learned directly from the people around him, adopting customs, traditions, and even some of the more pleasurable aspects of Risan culture. Among his less academic accomplishments were learning a variety of massage techniques and becoming familiar with a rather impressive assortment of oils and their combinations. Aidan still occasionally refers to those years with fondness. They were among the first times since the destruction of El-Auria that he truly allowed himself to simply live. 2362–2367, Delta IV Aidan next traveled to Delta IV, where he became attached to a cultural anthropology team studying the evolution of the Deltans. The experience cemented his fascination with living cultures and their development. Rather than simply documenting customs, Aidan became increasingly interested in understanding how civilizations changed over generations and how outside influences affected those changes. 2367–2371, Denobula Aidan's time on Denobula expanded his understanding of social structures, scientific culture, and the relationship between individual identity and communal life. He continued studying under historians, anthropologists, and archaeologists while building upon the practical knowledge he had gained during his earlier travels. 2371–2375 , Andoria Aidan's studies on Andoria gave him another opportunity to observe a culture with a very different history and social structure from those he had previously encountered. His interest in languages also expanded during this period, contributing to his eventual knowledge of Andorian. 2375–2378, Pacifica Aidan spent considerable time both above and beneath the waters of Pacifica. The underwater environment fascinated him, providing an entirely different perspective on civilization and adaptation. For Aidan, Pacifica was another reminder that the environment in which a civilization develops can shape everything from architecture and technology to social behavior. 2378–2384, Iconia At the conclusion of his travels, Aidan joined an anthropological expedition to Iconia. The experience proved decisive. The ancient civilization and the mysteries surrounding it rekindled something that had been developing throughout Aidan's travels: the desire not simply to study the past, but to explore the unknown on behalf of something larger than himself. The Iconian expedition finally convinced him to join Starfleet. In 2384, Aidan returned to Earth and applied to Starfleet Academy. He chose Archaeology and Anthropology as his primary field of study, with Xenobiology and Microbiology as secondary areas. His unusual age and extensive life experience made him an unconventional cadet, but Aidan approached Academy life with the same humility and curiosity that had characterized his travels. From 2384 through 2388, he studied in the Arts and Sciences program. His senior-year cadet cruise brought him to Deep Space 11 in the Gamma Quadrant aboard the USS Black Hawk. Aidan was immediately drawn to the ship and its mission. The Black Hawk represented precisely what he had hoped Starfleet would provide. It was an opportunity to encounter unfamiliar worlds, cultures, civilizations, and mysteries that existed beyond the comfortable boundaries of known space. Upon completion of his cadet cruise in 2388, Aidan was promoted to Ensign and assigned to the Black Hawk as an Alien Archaeologist/Anthropologist. Aidan's time aboard the Black Hawk quickly became one of the most important chapters of his life. He found a crew filled with people who were as varied and fascinating as the cultures he had spent lifetimes studying. For Aidan, the ship became more than a place of employment. It became a community. He developed friendships throughout the crew and proved particularly comfortable around younger officers, whom he regarded not as inexperienced children but as people beginning journeys he was fortunate enough to witness. His scientific specialty made him especially useful during encounters with unfamiliar cultures, archaeological mysteries, and unexplained civilizations. Aidan prefers observation before judgment. He asks why before deciding what. And when confronted with something genuinely unknown, his first instinct is usually curiosity rather than fear. During shore leave on what had affectionately become known as New Risa, Aidan met Mila Rasputin. The two began getting to know one another and eventually began dating. Aidan moved from his shared cadet quarters into a home with Mila. As their relationship deepened, it developed through affection, humor, mutual respect, and a willingness to accept one another without trying to change the other person. For Aidan, this was significant. After decades upon decades of watching potential relationships end because of his longevity, Mila represented something he had long ago stopped expecting to find. And that was someone willing to build a future with him despite the fact that his life would inevitably outlast hers. During the war with the Consortium at Deep Space 11, Aidan and Mila escaped the falling Black Hawk aboard a shuttle with other survivors. They landed safely on the planet below and endured the aftermath together. Following the debriefing, the surviving Black Hawk crew received two months of shore leave. Aidan and Mila spent part of that time planet-side before visiting both her family and his. Both families accepted their relationship, something that meant a great deal to Aidan. When Aidan received orders to report to Deep Space Nine and subsequently to the USS Black Hawk-A, he was grateful for the opportunity to continue serving with the ship. He was even happier when he discovered Mila would be going with him. They would remain together and that was what mattered most. When the Black Hawk-A was decommissioned, Aidan was transferred to the Federation colony on Gavara IV to assist with the rebuilding effort. His time there allowed him to apply his scientific and anthropological experience in a very different setting. Rather than studying a civilization from the outside, he found himself helping people rebuild their own. When the Akira-class USS Black Hawk-B eventually arrived with a convoy of supplies, Aidan and Mila received orders to return to the Black Hawk. For Aidan, it was another reminder that despite all the worlds he had visited and all the places he had called home, the Black Hawk had become something more permanent than he ever expected. Aidan and Mila's relationship eventually progressed beyond engagement and into marriage. Their wedding on New Risa was held at a place that held particular meaning for them: the location where they had planted a tree together. For Aidan, the tree represented more than the beginning of a marriage. It represented roots. For most of his life, Aidan had been a traveler. He had spent centuries moving from world to world, studying what other civilizations had built and learning from the people who inhabited them. Now he had planted something of his own. Something that could remain after he was gone. For an El-Aurian whose first home had been destroyed centuries earlier, that small act carried enormous significance. Aidan had finally found a place—and a person—with whom he wanted to build rather than merely observe. |
