| Personal History | The oldest of the four daughters of Serranstivlen and T'Les, T'Pai was born into a family steeped in academic tradition. Her maternal grandmother was an associate member of the team that excavated the famed Obelisks of Vulcan, and her mother, considered one of the leading expert on said constructs, is an instructor at Vulcan Science Academy. T'Pai's father is also an instructor at the Vulcan Science Academy, teaching comparative philosophies, with an emphasis in Ancient Greek Philosophers. He is also a noted speaker on the tenets of Kol-Ut-Shan, and has been a guest lecturer at Starfleet Academy on numerous occasions. T'Pai followed in her parents' academic footsteps, eventually earning a doctorate in theoretical physics from the Vulcan Science Academy with her thesis "The Application of Brahms' Elliptic Functions to Null Geodesic Folds." After receiving her doctorate, T'Pai spent the next six years with a Kolinahr master, after which she returned to the Vulcan Science Academy as an instructor. After two years, a chance conversation at a conference on Subspace Physics conducted by the Federation Science Bureau resulted in her becoming a research fellow at the Tanaline Propulsion Laboratory. Her interactions with her fellow researchers intrigued her, which eventually led her to a career at Starfleet. Before reporting to the Black Hawk, T'Pai was on detached assignment to the Daystrom Institute. One of her first projects was as a member of the validation team during the final stages of the development of the Gryphon-class fighter. It was during this time that Lieutenant T'Pai became virtually acquainted with Chief Petty Officer O. Erica Farrar, Chief of Fighter Maintenance on the USS Joffre. Chief Farrar was one of a number of Subject Matter Experts on active duty whom the validating team consulted. During that time, Chief Farrar introduced T'Pai to the mental challenge of escape rooms and other holonovel puzzles. This led to the two expanding their virtual discussions on a wide number of subjects and eventually becoming friends. T'Pai's first physical meeting with Chief Farrar occurred during a chance early morning meeting, when the two discovered they had both been assigned to the Black Hawk. Unfortunately, it was to be the last meeting between the two, as Chief Farrar was killed while neutralizing an unexploded microtorpedo lodged in the hull of Deep Space 15. |
