Personality & Traits

General Overview Tivan tends toward the sardonic, though her Vulcan equanimity makes it hard to distinguish from her fair but exacting standards. She is equal parts philosopher and pragmatist.

As a V'tosh ka'tur, Tivan is less concerned with Logic and more concerned with integrity. While often reserved, Tivan is unafraid to show emotion. It's just that, like reason and most other things in life, she views passion as a tool to be used rather than a weapon to be either brandished or feared.

There is also the matter of her heavy interest in pre-Awakening mythology. Tivan is a student of what's pejoratively called Vulcan Paganism by the Orthodox priests, but Tivan sees it as nothing more than an alternative historical perspective.
Strengths & Weaknesses Tivan marches to the beat of her own drum. Abstract issues and conflicts aren’t lost on her; she just doesn’t much care for them unless duty calls for it. As chief counselor, she is often called upon to factor abstract issues like politics that she had the luxury of disregarding early in her career.
Tivan is a natural skeptic, though falls short of cynicism. As such, she will question everything, even if only to herself.

Personal History Born on Vulcan, Tivan had an unremarkable upbringing not much different than many Vulcan children. The Vulcan Science Academy did not appeal to her, nor did Starfleet at first. As a child, she loved the discovery of exploration, often taking to the Vulcan wilderness in pursuit of what might be. Finding the child stories to be myths, the explorer’s spirit soon died out.

As a result, Tivan spent her post-adolescence studying the ancient past of her people, which led to a newfound appreciation for discovery and a sense of loss for what could've been. She buried herself in books, artwork, and anything else which hinted at what it meant to be Vulcan apart from Logic.

Naturally, her family was displeased with her illogical pursuits. She agreed to set her mind toward something constructive.

Civil Engineering called to her, first as an architect, then an urban planner. Tivan found an inherent psychology to be found in how people construction their homes and civilization. However, the old call to the frontier that persisted through her childhood never fully faded away. After completing tertiary schooling, Tivan applied for the Starfleet Academy.

Not one for replacing warp coils, monitoring the EPS grid, or polishing phaser rifles, Tivan pursue the Science track only to discover that sensor modulation and stellar physics did not grasp her interest either. She was truly a woman of the people, for it was they who captivated her interest.

Science soon gave way to Medical, though Tivan never abandoned her researcher's ways. She eventually found her calling in Applied Psychology which bridged clinical psychology with cross disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, forensics, and neurology.

In time, Tivan's expertise made her far more than a rank and file counselor. Between her pro-active studies and meticulous research, Tivan boldly insinuates herself into the lives of the personnel of every duty station.
