Personality & Traits

General Overview Ranul Frex was a Trill and El-Aurian hybrid Engineering Officer. Born on the Trill homeworld to Endrin and Emory Onias, Ranul grew up learning about the various parts of his heritage along with his two brothers, Jorel and Andrinn. His father's work as a Trill historian and his mother's role as an El-Aurian storyteller instilled in him a deep appreciation for history and knowledge. From an early age, Ranul demonstrated a natural aptitude for engineering, which he pursued passionately through middle school, high school, and eventually at Starfleet Academy.

After graduating from the Academy, Ranul underwent the rigorous process of joining with the Frex symbiont, a transformative experience that initially posed challenges as he struggled to integrate the symbiont's memories and experiences. However, this journey ultimately enriched his skills and broadened his perspective. His Starfleet career saw him excel in various roles, including as an Engineering Officer on the USS Franklin, a Theoretical Engineer at Starbase One, and Assistant Chief Engineer on the USS Blackhorse. These diverse experiences equipped Ranul with a wealth of knowledge and leadership skills, culminating in his current role as Chief Engineer, where he continues to push the boundaries of engineering innovation and excellence.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths-Great Listener, Physical Strength, Easygoing, Quick Learner

Weaknesses-Distaste for the Borg and Nanotechnology, Catches a temper when someone tries to harm the people that he cares about
Ambitions One of the biggest ambitions that Ranul set for himself was to become a leader within the field of Engineering, much like the likes of Leah Brahams was for the Galaxy-Class Starship design. While he wasn't keen on being at the forefront of the pack, he wanted to help expand the knowledge of how things worked and making the universe work better around him.

Another ambition that Ranul had was to see the insides of the Galaxy-Class starship, as well as to break it down to build it back up. While Ranul knew that it would be almost impossible to do something like that, it was something that he wished he could do before his death.

Personal History Ranul Frex was born on the Trill homeworld to Endrin and Emory Onias. Endrin was a historian, who took Ranul and his two brothers, Jorel and Andrinn, to the various sites around the Trill homeworld, as he tried to impart his love and appreciation for History onto his children. Emory was was a gift linguist, who would tell stories of distant galaxies and imparted the wisdom of previous generations of El-Aurians to all three of her children.

During his middle school years, Ranul began to show his exceptional aptitude for engineering. He often found himself disassembling household devices to understand their mechanics. His parents encouraged this curiosity, providing him with kits and materials to construct his own inventions. Ranul's hybrid heritage made him uniquely perceptive, allowing him to see connections and patterns that others might miss.

Academically, Ranul excelled in science and mathematics, often helping his classmates with complex problems. His teachers recognized his potential and guided him toward advanced projects. Outside of academics, Ranul developed an interest in Klingon culture, inspired by the stories his mother told him about the diverse civilizations in the galaxy. He started learning the Klingon language and martial arts, which fascinated him with their disciplined and honorable approach.

High school was a transformative period for Ranul. He attended a prestigious institution known for its rigorous curriculum and diverse student body. Here, Ranul's engineering talents flourished. He led several school projects, including designing a more efficient energy system for the school and developing a prototype for a small-scale replicator. These projects not only showcased his skills but also his ability to work collaboratively with others.

Ranul's interest in Klingon martial arts deepened during this time. He trained under a retired Klingon warrior who had settled on Trill. This training not only honed his physical abilities but also instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor. Ranul's proficiency in Klingon language and culture grew, making him a unique figure in his school.

Socially, Ranul was well-liked but maintained a small close-knit group of friends. His calm and wise demeanor, a gift from his El-Aurian heritage, made him a trusted confidant among his peers. He balanced his academic pursuits with extracurricular activities, including a leadership role in the school’s engineering club and participation in cultural exchange programs.

At 17, Ranul entered Starfleet Academy, a dream he had harbored for years. The Academy was challenging, but it was here that Ranul's true potential began to shine. He majored in Engineering, focusing on theoretical engineering, where he explored cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions to complex problems.

Ranul's hybrid background provided him with unique insights, allowing him to excel in courses that required creative and unconventional thinking. He participated in advanced projects, including the design of a new warp core prototype and the development of adaptive shielding technology. His work earned him accolades and the respect of his professors and peers.

During his time at the Academy, Ranul also continued his studies in Klingon culture, taking elective courses in Klingon language and history. He often mediated disputes and offered advice, embodying the El-Aurian trait of being a good listener and wise advisor.

One notable event during his Academy years was his leadership in a simulated crisis scenario, where his quick thinking and engineering prowess saved the "ship" from disaster. This experience solidified his reputation as a talented and reliable engineer.

After graduating, Ranul was chosen to join with the Frex symbiont, a significant honor. The joining process was rigorous, requiring two years of intense preparation and training. This period was both challenging and disorienting for Ranul, as he initially felt he was losing a part of his own identity amidst the influx of the symbiont's previous hosts' memories and experiences. It was a difficult journey, filled with moments of doubt and confusion. However, a conversation with another recently joined Trill host helped him gain perspective. This peer shared their own struggles and the ultimate fulfillment they found through the joining. Inspired and reassured, Ranul began to appreciate the importance of the symbiotic relationship, realizing that it would enrich his skills and perspectives, enhance his engineering expertise, and broaden his emotional and intellectual horizons.

Upon completing the joining process, Ranul returned to Starfleet with a renewed sense of purpose. His first assignment was on the USS Franklin as an Engineering Officer. Here, Ranul gained hands-on experience with starship systems, troubleshooting real-time issues and performing essential maintenance tasks. His innovative approach to problem-solving quickly made him a standout member of the engineering team.

After his tenure on the USS Franklin, Ranul was transferred to Starbase One as a Theoretical Engineer. In this role, he delved into research and development, working on pioneering projects that pushed the boundaries of current technology. This position allowed Ranul to apply his academic knowledge in practical scenarios, contributing to the advancement of Starfleet engineering practices.

Seeking more direct involvement with starship operations, Ranul accepted a position on the USS Blackhorse as Assistant Chief Engineer. This role provided him with leadership experience and a deeper understanding of starship engineering management. Ranul's ability to lead a team and his innovative contributions during critical missions solidified his reputation as a skilled engineer and a reliable officer.
