1.3 Naval Enlisted

Enlisted personnel make up the bulk of Starfleet's personnel. Normally, these members of the fleet serve for only five or ten years, and their training is specialized; while an officer has a broad knowledge of all Starfleet systems along with a specialty, enlisted personnel generally only have training in one specific area.

Master Chief Petty Officer
Master Chief Petty Officers are generally considered to be technical experts in their fields. As such they are normally assigned to major fleet commands and fleet staffs. Many MCPOs choose to enter the Command Master Chief Petty Officer Program. If selected they receive additional leadership training and may be assigned to commands as the Command Master Chief (CMC). The Command Master Chief Petty Officer is the senior enlisted person at a command and as such works as a liaison between the Commanding Officer and the enlisted ranks within that command, being referred to as the Chief of the Boat or COB for short. In this capacity the CMC assists both the Commanding Officer and the Executive Officer in issues of quality of life, discipline, training, and morale. The same applies for a Fleet Master Chief Petty Officer, who acts as a liaison between the fleet's commander and the fleet's noncoms.

Senior Chief Petty Officer

Chief Petty Officer
Chief Petty Officers are members of Starfleet who have a great deal of experience and knowledge, but who have not completed the training required to become an officer. They mentor junior officers and enlisted personnel, serve as assistants to officers, and serve in leadership positions that do not require a commissioned officer.

Petty Officer 1st Class

Petty Officer 3rd Class
Petty Officers are experienced crewmen who have minor leadership roles aboard starships. Typically, these members have at least 2 years of experience, and are highly skilled in their field.

Crewman 1st Class
Crewmen are the junior-most enlisted personnel, and make up the bulk of Starfleet. They have had nine months of training, and continue to learn on the job. Typically, only 30% of crewmen re-enlist after their original tour of duty, so they vastly out-number their more senior counterparts.

Crewman Apprentice
Crewman Apprentices are those Enlisted Personnel undergoing vocational training. They hold this rank for six months, while they are learning their chosen skill, and wear the uniform of a cadet without rank markings.

Crewman Recruit
Crewman Recruits are those Enlisted Personnel undergoing basic training. They hold this rank for three months, while they are in basic training, and wear the uniform of a cadet without division markings or rank markings.
