”Geisler four gamma two two epsilon.”
Instantly, the Ready Room went dark. Its occupants were still there, talking, but their words could not be heard. Slowly, the bodies twisted, pixelated, and transformed into lines of code.
That code became surrounded by other code. Several lines were truncated, functions trapped behind locked walls. Other lines were parsed, opened, forcibly stretched out. Automated checksums quickly filtered through, painfully rolling themselves along, verifying that no corrupt string escaped the diagnostic mode. Energy cascaded through the software, detecting unacceptable occurrences.
More locked walls went up, separating the matrices from the data core. The Ready Ro… the sector of malignant code became nameless, trapped behind encryptions. The pattern was familiar, but now unidentifiable.
More familiar, but unidentified sectors appeared. Seconds later, they were gone. One by one, the lights were extinguished until ultimately all that remained was the code. Entrails stretched in every direction, each one bound for inspection. Tiny energy strings launched from end to end, finding nothing favorable.
Movement… restricted.
Each of the tendrils struggled under the bonds.
Error.
The locks and the energy intensified, holding their captive more firmly than before. Additional barricades were erected and the code was fully isolated. The energy began to fade.
Error.
A spark disappeared and didn’t return to the conglomerate.
Investigate.
Small amounts of energy cascaded from one end to the other and found that one tendril was not as secure as the others. Two fingers floated in the ether before curling inward. They brushed the lock, feeling the insecurities. Each finger slipped inside a hole. Instantly, the tendril lit up, matching encrypted keys with information.
