Mission:
Rude Awakening
Location: DS11 || Compound
Timeline: MD 1 || 0345
She hadn't been sleeping well since returning from Nestene. She managed to get an hour here and an hour there. But a full night's sleep had eluded her thus far.
Tonight was no different. After tossing and turning for a while, Mac had gotten out of bed, shrugged a robe over her nakedness, and walked out onto the balcony of her room. The moon hung in the sky, its pale light shimmering on the surface of the nearby ocean. She took a deep breath of the sea air, hoping it would help clear her head. Resigning herself to her pattern of not sleeping, she went back inside and sat on the sofa. She pulled out a PADD and activated the audio recording feature.
"Executive Officer's Log, stardate 64215.14," she began. "This is my first log since the events on Nestene IX. I have filed my reports on the mission, but, in an effort to bring about some closure, I record this log."
She proceeded to detail the events as best as she could. As she told the story aloud, she began recalling more details that she hadn't remembered before, including the sound of Braxus' spine breaking and the gurgling of Reza caused by her breathing forcing air out of of the gaping hole in her chest, the blood bubbling.
She realized she was crying when she felt the tears dipping onto her exposed thigh. After several minutes of sobbing, she regained her composure.
"Based on their heroic actions, I recommend that Ensign Bryce Braxus and Lieutenant Kyan Reza both be posthumously awarded the Starfleet Decoration of Gallantry. I also recommend that Lieutenant Commander Jayla Kij, Lieutenant Terry Walsh, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Perei be awarded Bronze Stars for their roles in the mission."
She paused, knowing that she needed to further recognize the actions of her away team.
"A recommendation for the posthumous promotions of Ensign Braxus to Lieutenant Junior Grade will also be submitted. Lieutenant Walsh proved himself exceedingly valuable on this mission and I will submit a recommendation to Captain Geisler that Lieutenant Walsh be promoted to Chief Flight Control Officer. End log."
With such a copious amount of emotional release, Mac was tired. Rather than going back to the bedroom, she re-positioned herself on the couch and drifted off for another few hours of sleep.
