She'd gotten careless. Or so that was all in Jillian's mind as she and the rest of the O'Carroll's senior staff had thought as they were en route to the Transporter Room. They'd lingered in one spot two long, taking advantage of Terlexa's desire to arm Gavara. Of course they'd send someone.
But why Harvey Geisler of all people? Was Terlexa that angry with Zach that she had to send his old roommate to take him down? She wanted to talk to her Betazoid Security Chief, but as they were now surrounded by Geisler's security forces, this was not the right time.
Her child kicked and turned, almost as if he too was agitated by the conundrum. After all, he did seem to take after his mother's habits.
Lieutenant Di Pasquale positioned Johnson and Donelly stood on either side of the prisoners while she contacted the Black Hawk =^=Di Pasquale to Black Hawk. Five to energize.=^= She looked at Captain who clearly had many things on her mind and she had heard what was said on the bridge of the O'Carroll. "We'll go next, Captain," she told her as Johnson and Donelly dematerialized.
"Oh joy," Jillian muttered. She watched intently as her fellow officers were dismantled by the transporter. Jillian didn't like this one bit, being left alone with a security detachment from another ship. Especially ones that didn't know the truth. By now, the Consortium's actions were no secret to the crew of the O'Carroll. Even then, they did not know how far their power stretched. If only Lieutenant Wul had successfully read Captain Geisler by now, she'd have a better sense of his loyalty.
And she an idea of what to do.
Still, that wouldn't prevent Jillian from being... well... Jillian.
"How long have you been in the Gamma Quadrant, Lieutenant?" she asked the Black Hawk security officer, hoping to pass the time if anything else.
"Two years, Captain," Camila said. "I served on Deep Space Eleven prior to my transfer to Black Hawk."
"Hmhmm," Jillian muttered, "You were there then. When the Consortium took over."
"I was there long enough to know traitors are in Starfleet," Camila said as she motioned for the Captain to step onto the transporter pad beside of her.
No matter how reluctant she was, Jillian stepped onto the platform without hesitation. "The traitors aren't just in Starfleet." She looked over at the blonde lieutenant. "They're calling the shots now. Before long, sadly, no one will know the difference."
"They won't be for long," Camila said before tapping her combadge. =^=Energize=^=
A moment later, they materialized on the Black Hawk transporter pad. "If you'll come with me, Captain, we can get you settled into your new accommodations."
Jillian took immediate note of the armed guards. She kept her left hand on her abdomen, and otherwise kept herself calm. "It's a sad day when someone thinks a pregnant woman is dangerous," she muttered, reaching out with her right hand, hoping she'd get help in stepping off of the platform.
Camila steadied the Captain with her left hand, but kept her right hand free and not far from her phaser as she stepped off the platform. "It's a sadder day when a Starfleet Captain gives up everything they swore to uphold and turns against their own," she said.
"Thank you," Jillian said in return for the help. As for the comment, Jillian added while waiting for Di Pasquale to lead the way, "I couldn't agree more, Lieutenant. Which is why the mutiny at Deep Space 11 is a pure tragedy."
"Right this way, Captain," Camila said as she led her out of the transporter room and towards the turbolift. "If you couldn't agree more, you would have stood down instead of firing when we encountered your ship."
"Your Captain had made it clear when he was on my bridge," Jillian said, staying close beside the Lieutenant. "The Consortium is after my husband and anyone who associates with him. We've already had to fight one Consortium-controlled ship and I have no desire to fight another." But I will if I have to... she thought, hoping that her gut instinct about Harvey was right.
"The Black Hawk isn't a Consortium ship," Camila said as she summoned the turbolift and gestured for the Captain to enter first. "If it was, I wouldn't be here."
"Neither is mine," Jillian said, stepping into the 'lift. "And neither do my orders come from them."
"Deck Seventeen," Camila ordered as she stepped into the turbolift. "If you weren't taking orders from them, why did you fire on the fighters and convoy?"
"You could say that we were defending ourselves. The convoy opened fire before we could hail, and so did your fighters." Looking to Di Pasquale, she added, "I'm sure Deep Space 11 told you that the convoy had a medical purpose, did they not?"
"Yes," Camila said. Since she hadn't been involved in the fight, she couldn't say for certain who had fired at who first.
Jillian nodded, looking back to the closed turbolift doors. "I'm sure Captain Geisler will be moving back to the convoy soon to see to repairs. Check their cargo holds. You'll find medical supplies, along with plenty of phaser rifles, grenades, torpedoes... The Consortium's planning to use Gavara as a staging ground for an assault."
"I'll mention it to Captain Geisler," Camila said. "Will you require a doctor or physician during your...stay...with us?" She hesitated to think of a pregnant woman in the Brig, but she had her orders.
"Wouldn't hurt. It's been a few weeks since I've actually seen someone qualified in prenatal care."
"Why so long?" Camila asked as the turbolift came to a halt and opened and she motioned for the Captain to exit.
Jillian exited first, replying, "Our doctor turned out to be Consortium."
Camila stepped out behind her. "You had no other physicians or anyone else for prenatal care?" She asked, making a mental note to inform Commander Kij to do a check on the Captain.
The Commander shook her head. "All we have right now are two triage nurses and our EMH was damaged weeks ago."
"I'll make certain that our Chief Medical Officer gets with you as soon as possible," Camila assured her as she led the way to the brig where the other officers from the O'Carroll were being held.
Jillian took note of how her crew was broken up between the cells. Her Zaldan Ops Chief shared a cell with the Denobulan Science Officer while her Betazoid Security Chief shared a cell with the Vulcan Helmsman. Her Counselor had her own cell. Jillian wondered if she'd join her or if one of the other empty cells would soon have a sole occupant.
Camila hesitated for a moment, but she had no orders to isolate the Captain from the rest of her crew. It seemed best to put her in with the Counselor so she would have someone to speak with in private, but at the same time if the Counselor was Consortium or the Captain was, that one of them may end up hurt. Finally, she made up her mind. "For your safety and the safety of your child, Captain, I have decided to put you in your own accommodations. I hope you understand."
By now, she'd placed a smile on her face, hoping it would help reassure her staff, or at least lift her own spirits. Jillian also gave the Counselor a friendly nod. "Thank you, Lieutenant."
Camila nodded and led her to one of the cells. "If you require anything, please don't hesitate to let one of the personnel know," she said as she stood by the door and waited to activate the forcefield.
Jillian nodded, giving no verbal reply this time. She stepped inside the cell, walked a couple paces, then turned around, still keeping her left hand over the child within her.
Camila activated the forcefield and nodded once to the Captain, then checked with the Security personnel on duty in the Brig to notify Medical if Captain O'Connell had any needs. She glanced back at the woman once, then turned and left to notify Commander Kij about the Captain's prenatal needs.
The Commander took note of the guards that remained behind, then the expressions on the faces of her staff contained behind the forcefields. "Tharlon, tell me you've got something."
The Betazoid, who was sitting on one of the bunks in his cell, looked towards O'Connell. "I'm pretty sure the Captain's clean. And that security officer too."
"What about the rest of the ship?"
He shook his head. "The Consortium's here. It's not as strong as what I felt on the day of the attacks, but it's here. And I know it beamed over to the O'Carroll with Geisler. I'm not sure who it was though. I think it was someone in security."
Jillian frowned. "If that's the case, we may all be in trouble." She knew now there was only one thing to do.
She had to talk to Harvey.
