Mission:
Echoes
Location: USS Black Hawk, Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: January 1, 2388
Hunter, fitted in her fresh uniform, stepping in front of the door of her new Commanding Officer's ready room. She was ready for the environment change, and the butterflies in her stomach made her realize how nervous she really was (and she never was nervous about anything). Hopefully the meeting was going to go better than the time she spent at the Dabo table. Pressing the door chime, her foot tapped nervously underneath her.
Harvey tapped a couple buttons on the PADD as he paced across his office. Had he known being a Commanding Officer involved this much paperwork, he would have gladly remained a researcher. Or, he could use a little more caution when asking for detailed reports.
Thus, when the door chime sounded, he was quite relieved for a break. "Come," he said, circling back to sit behind his desk. Looking up, he saw a lovely woman with lieutenant pips on her teal collar, a rank rare among his crew. He assumed she was one of his last senior staff members to arrive, but her face was not one he recognized from the manifest. "Lieutenant, what can I do for you?" Harvey asked, sitting at last in his chair.
Walking to his desk, Hunter handed the Commander a PaDD. "Lieutenant Hunter Thomas, Chief Medical Officer, reporting for duty, Commander." She gave the man her most charming smile, or at least attempted to.
Harvey was confused. When the Black Hawk rendezvoused with the Sovereign just an hour ago to exchange supplies and personnel, he didn't realize his first personnel change was due so soon. He accepted the PADD and took a look at her orders, along with a copy of orders for Lieutenant Milo. A situation had arisen elsewhere in the quadrant requiring the good doctor's skillset. Doctor Thomas was his replacement.
"Well," he responded at last, gesturing to a chair for her to sit in, "it'll be nice to have someone who has experience with the unknown."
Hunter smirked as she took her seat. "I certainly hope you haven't set too high of expectations of me. My last post wasn't exactly enlightening. I look forward to you changing that and give me the opportunity to step outside of the Sickbay occasionally."
Harvey found her comment surprising in regards to her last assignment. "The Black Hawk is a quick strike carrier. It's hard to expect to stay out of harm's way." He folded his hands and rested them on his desk. "Though our first assignment doesn't look to be that exciting. I'm sure we can find plenty for you to do."
He smiled, taking a moment to consider the woman in front of him. "You'll have to forgive me, Doctor. Usually a captain assembles his crew, but the choices have yet to be mine. You're at a bit of a disadvantage, but if Starfleet feels you'll be a good fit for the Black Hawk, then I'm sure you'll rise to the challenge."
"Always, Commander." Hunter crossed her legs and leaned back into her chair comfortably. She was getting a good vibe from the man. "I look forward to gaining your trust during the mission ahead."
"And I yours," Harvey replied. "I hope you'll find everything down below to your liking. Since we're already in transit, we won't have an opportunity to pick up anything you need until we've completed our mission." He let his smile disappear slowly, but not before he asked a common interview question, "In the meantime, tell me a little about yourself, Doctor." He hadn't the chance, thanks to the sudden transfer, to review her file. All he knew at the moment was her name.
Hunter smiled. "Well, I'm very athletic and I love to go out and be adventurous. I must say being away from the water has been rather difficult." She let out a soft laugh. "But I love the work I've been doing for Starfleet and the people I've helped." She paused, her mind going blank as she looked at the Commander. "Uhh, well I guess that pretty much sums me up. I'm not really a complicated woman."
Harvey chuckled, surprisingly comfortable in front of Hunter. "Rightfully so, I'm sure." This ship had her share of complicated personnel, her captain included. Having someone... less complicated around would help maintain a balance. Glancing down at his desk, the photo of his lost love made him realize why he was so comfortable. Hunter, in many ways, carried the same personality of Alison. It was as if fate was telling him all really would be well in the Gamma Quadrant, filled with adventure and exploration of new frontiers. "Well, if there is anything you need, please be sure to let me know." He rose to his feet and extended his hand to the doctor. "Commander Harvey Geisler."
Hunter stood up slowly, taking his hand in hers. "It's nice to meet you, Commander. I'll let you know. I'll try not to bother you too much." She gave him a playful wink. "I'm sure you have plenty more important things to do than chat with me so I'll get out of your way."
"Of course," Harvey replied, smiling in return. "Welcome aboard, Doctor."
Hunter nodded. "Thank you, Sir."
