Mission: Outbreak
Location: Gym
Timeline: MD 4

Catherine Cooper, newly minted Assistant Chief of Security was jogging on a treadmill. Her hair the dark brown of rich earth was pulled back in a think pony tail and her emerald green eyes fixed on some distant point. Her jogging form was perfect in the workout clothes she wore as she continued to rack up the miles. Every so often she would would mutter into a small recording device on her left arm things like, "Note to self test idea that we can fit a dermal regerator and hypo on the batman belt idea without adding too much weight before telling Chief. Gotta make sure it works first." And alternating with singing snippets of her favorite songs in a clear and rich alto. Currently she was going through the old soldiers classic 'Parting Glass':

"...
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
"Good night and joy be to you all"

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay

But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
"Good night and joy be to you all...

Lieutenant Jarveth Adan was on his way to the gym for much needed exercise when he heard the beautiful voice singing. Immediately, he was entranced. The Trill officer had never heard anything more lovely.

Clad in a navy blue tank top and black trousers, he revealed a little more of his spots more than usual. They were a beautiful vermillion color. Most people were curious how far down they went. This outfit showed them off more than usual.

"That was perfect," he said to Lieutenant Catherine Cooper after she finished. He removed the towel flung on his shoulder and smiled. "Mind if I join you?"

CJ glanced over at the new voice as she kept jogging, she wondered how long he'd been there. Not that she was embarrassed, that was rare for her, but just curious. She smiled easily, a natural look on her expressive features. “Thank you, something I like to do. You know mood for every song, song for every mood. I think music is a wonderful thing. I'm Lt. Cooper, Catherine...friends call me CJ. I'm the deputy Chief of the meat shield killjoys on board. Who are you? And feel free. See what I did there, remembered you asked a question...go me...” She said rapid fire even as she kept jogging and gestured to the treadmill next to her.

Deftly, Adan stepped onto the treadmill next to Catherine and started jogging. "Thanks, CJ and it's Jarveth. Actually, it's Lieutenant Jarveth Adan. I'm the Chief Flight Control Officer, but you can call me Jarveth like all my friends do."

"I love music too," added he. "All types of music."

CJ's smile grew into a pleased grin, well didn't he have moves? She thought as he smoothly jumped on the treadmill without missing a beat. "I know right? Nothing transcends culture, language or emotional types like music." She replied and they jogged along in companionable silence for a bit. Until she continued with their previous conversation, seemingly out of nowhere, "I'm not sure I'd be able to resist the desire to do belly rolls in a starship." She said with a mischievous grin and just a hint of longing, like she really wanted to try it now but knew she wasn't allowed.

Jarveth couldn't help but laugh. "I'd like to see you do it," he said. "I bet we'd both be in trouble. I guess it's the playful nature in me."

Catherine glanced over briefly with a smile that shared his own. "I can see we'll be a bad influence on each other....we should be friends I think..." She said in the tone of one coming to a decision. She didn't always make snap judgements despite her quick nature, ok almost never no really stop laughing, but she was good judge of character and had always trusted her instincts so that helped.

She kept jogging for a time more before hitting the 'cool down' button. "Ah fun we'll never have because we are slaves to service..." she said in mock sadness but no real regret. She was just as dedicated as any other Starfleet officer, just...a bit off. She was sweating lightly and her muscles burned but it was a good kind of burn. She eye'd the climbing wall in brief consideration then redirected her attention when Jarveth replied.

Jarveth agreed, "We should be friends. We get along together after all. Besides, being dedicated to your work doesn't mean you can't have fun. Have you ever heard of the Trill known as Dax?" He was thinking that until recently, he was a Captain...or rather Sahala was. And Jorrel served aboard Voyager during its days in the Delta Quadrent. How much fun both of them had.

Catherine got a thoughtful expression, which had the effect of giving others the impression of wisdom that her ready smile normally hid. Her mind whirling through memory like a computer on fast re wind until it hit on the ones she wanted. "Yes. a big wheel in the Bajoran sector good work on cutting down the crazy there..." pause, "and an Ambassador before that right? I had a Great Uncle on his security detail, he kept them on their toes I tell you what." She smiled at the memories of the Great Uncles stories. "You're joined? Have you been female? Even with the training I'd think that be hard to get used too. If that's too personal forget I asked, I'm not completely tactless." She finished her run and stopped the machine, wiping her face as she stood nearby.

Jarveth grinned at CJ's question. "I have been female before. In fact, I know how to pleasure men and women due to that fact. My last host, in fact, was female-Sahala. She was a Captain while I as Jarveth served. She was slaughtered by a renegade Klingon. I was the only other Trill on board at the time and ready for joining. It's fun having been both sexes which is why many joined Trill are bisexual. That was probably more than you needed to know." Jarveth laughed heartily as he slowed down on the treadmill.

Both her eyebrows went up briefly as her mind fought with itself to both imagine and stop imagining what he meant by that first sentence. And it was a knock down, drag out brawl. Since her brain sometimes had the control of a drunken monkey. She smiled, "No information is good. It stimulates the little grey cells." She said the second sentence in a bad Belgian accent from a favorite fictional investigator. She meant it, learning something new was not if and of itself a bad thing. Though some things she was happy not thinking about like her parents dating, arrg lol. "For better or worse." She thought in relation to her last verbal statement. Then she sobered, "I am sorry that your previous host was killed but glad not all was lost." Then she smiled again, "That's some back up plan you have."

"Hercule Poirot, right?" inquired Jarveth. "He's one of my favorites of Christie. Would you consider playing one of the holonovels on the holodeck with me sometime? I have several including Murder on the Orient Express.

CJ blinked then her face beamed. There's really no other word for it, it was like someone had turned on the sun. Her smile was broad as she shifted gears, "You know Poirot? How about Miss Marple? I love her, I want to be her when I get old. All politely solving crimes using her wits and back in time for tea. Sherlock is good too but complete lack of social skills, I mean just because you are a genius doesn't mean you can look down on people. I ways thought that's why Watson was there to interface with the public for him." She stopped the runaway train of her words, thought about something then continued, "And yes that sounds like fun. Orient is one of the best stories and something about trains that always makes things more exciting. The people and the travel...." Again she remembered something and cut herself off, looking vaguely sheepish, "Sorry, it's just not that common to find 19th century British mystery fans out here."

"I have several of the Miss Marple movies featuring Joan Hickson. They are collector's items. I'd also like to do the holonovel sometime. Just say when."

CJ blinked impressed. Oh they were definitely going to be friends. "Definitely, I was going to go camping but maybe sometime later. I'll catch up with you soon Jarveth, I must de-funk. Only when one is smelling like roses can one defend the light." She quipped and with a wave was gone.
