Kaylee was in engineering bay, the crew rushing around as they were double checking and making repairs as they went. Meanwhile, Kaylee was reading over a PADD where she groaned loudly and grabbed a tool kit. "Ensign, I'm heading to up to deck 5, Conduit fluctuation up there to check out. Do another diagnostic of the Warp core and recheck all EPS conduits to make sure they wont blow up when we don't need it too." Kaylee said as the Ensign rolled his eyes in annoyance as he left off to do as he was ordered.
Kaylee then turned and headed towards the Engineering door reading over the PADD not paying attention as she ran straight into someone who was also coming in.
Harvey was glad his coffee mug was nearly empty, and lukewarm. Otherwise, the spill that was just left on his uniform would have been larger and hotter than what was now prominently featured on his abdomen. "In a hurry, Lieutenant?" Harvey asked, his tone a little gruff as he didn't appreciate not being able to finish the last of his non-replicated coffee.
"Sorry about that, sir." she said dropping her tool down and helping to clean the Captain up a bit. "I'm just having the entire EPS conduit systems rechecked and a full power diagnostic of the warp core done and I'm about to head to deck 5, there were some power fluctuations up there, might have to replace a EPS conduit, after all we don't want the ship to blow out decks or blow up due to poor check ups routine or not." She said smiling. "Need anything, sir?" She asked picking up her tool kit.
"Actually, I'm here to perform an inspection of Engineering," Harvey confessed, spotting a nearby crewman and handed him the empty mug as there was no longer a point to carrying it around the ship. "As I know Chief Rykov is occupied, I'll need you to bring me up to speed on how things are going."
"Well, sir. Ill spare you the long version with a whole bunch of technobabble, but engineering is doing good, not great but decently good. Though I wish we could track down these power fluctuations, otherwise, things are decent here. The crew down here don't like me since I made them replace several EPS conduits that looked like they were a bit on the wear and tear end of things but otherwise, I don't see us blowing up anytime soon. Are you looking for anything specific, sir?" She asked as she recovered from her babbling by asking a question with a bit more focus in the end result.
"The Black Hawk is an older ship," Harvey remarked. "Well past fifteen, and I'm sure overdue for an overhaul. I doubt those conduits are going to be the end of the replacements."
"Well, I'm making sure we have several spares. If the Marines ever taught me anything, you cant be too prepared or over prepared for the inevitable that will soon come to pass. Oh, you don't have an issue that your assistant engineer is a ex marine do you?. I know a lot of Starfleet personnel always enjoys the conflict between our two uniforms but in the end, when you need a marine, we are usually there even if your standard security is too much of a chicken to rush into harms way. But I won't hold it against you to much, sir. Different uniforms, but in the end, we are all on the same side, sir." She said with a grin.
Harvey chuckled for a breath. "You're not the only ex-Marine aboard," he told her. "The Chief of the Boat, both the Squadron Commander and Deputy Commander, and I think one of the administrative officers are ex-Marines. You should start a club." Then, on a more serious note, he added, "Besides, our security contingent is top notch. I would bet real latinum that they'd give you Marines a run for your money."
"We should. Ex-marines vs Starfleet Securities supposed best. Now that could be a interesting challenge for us to take up." she said with a grin. "But anyway's, Security is good for two things, meat shields and starship security. Marine's can do Security, tactical and Engineering job's the same if not more than your run of the mill Starfleet officer. Not to mention, we are trained to think outside the box where as your security types are by the book people, and what causes the most deaths in a firefight are those that go by the book. So yeah, I will say that us ex-marine's are far more trained then you fleeters, sir. We use explosive's, you do not. We are trained to work as a small unit, you're trained to line up and be shot, sir. But i'm being bias of course. It's all about the toy's and who has the better training, your fleeters get book room training and pushing a button with little to no field experience, marines, all we get is field experience. So I will bet all my latium on us and like a good Ferengi will do, I will enjoy taking all your money and then some, sir." she said laughing slightly.
"Just because we don't use explosives doesn't make us any less trained," Harvey replied almost sternly. She'd made a decent impression on him the day before, but this experience was beginning to sour that. Less than twenty-four hours on the Black Hawk and she was passing judgment on his crew. "And I'm sure Lieutenant Di Pasquale and her team would greatly disagree."
"I am sure they would disagree, Security and Marines have always had a feud going who is best and what not. I just had bad experience counting on security officers saving the day is all. Marines tend to get the job done, Security tends to do planning and unable to work within the adaptability marines are known for, sir. But anyways, I need to repair the EPS conduits and get with Operations to see if they have any other issues with the hardware onboard. If there isn't anything else, sir?" She asked curiously feeling as if her opinionated arse was digging herself deeper into a sizable hole.
Harvey shook his head. "There isn't, Lieutenant. Just make sure we're ship shape by the time we arrive. They may not be time to do much else when we get there."
"Sir." She said saluting, grabbing her tool kit and headed off to deck 5.
