Fun-Sized

Mission: Risky Business
Location: Random
Timeline: MD 2 || 1630 Hours

Cadet Senior Grade Kelly Khan sat in the quarters wearing the pink and black patterned shirt and a pair of black jeans and tennis shoes with white skulls she had worn earlier pulled up the terminal. "Computer, locate Lieutenant JG Daniella Blake," she requested as she sipped on a mug of coffee and munched on a piece of real chocolate.

"Lieutenant JG Daniella Blake is in her quarters," The computer replied, then proceeded with the deck and number.

"Thanks," Kelly told the computer, despite it not needing thanks. She shut the terminal down and headed to the turbolift and started to tell it to go to the deck that Dani was on, then changed her mind and headed to Talon's first. There, she picked up two huge fudge brownies and two cups of coffee to go.

Once more, she headed to the turbolift and back to the deck the computer had listed for her fun-sized new friend. Arriving, she headed down the corridor and set the container with the coffee down, pressed the chime, then picked the cups back up to wait for a response.

Dani made her way from her bedroom when she heard the chime and moved to the door, pressing the sensor to open it. She lit up when she saw Kelly standing on the other side. "Kel... hey... come on in." She stepped out of the way and gestured for her to come inside. Sadly, her place was lacking in any form of personal effects presently.

"Hi, Dani," Kelly chirped as she stepped into her quarters. "I come bearing gifts!" She held up the bag from Talon's and the two coffee cups in the container.

After closing the door, Dani moved over to the couch and settled down, gesturing for Kelly to do the same. "You didn't have to do that, but it's appreciated. Thank you."

Kelly joined her on the couch and opened the bag and pulled out the two brownies still wrapped and offered her one, then one of the coffees. "Have to? No. I wanted to, Dani," she said. "I felt bad about the other day and thought I'd come by and spend some time with you. It's not a bad time, is it?"

"No, it's not a bad time," The blonde answered with a smile as she accepted her coffee and brownie. "But, what do you feel bad about? There's nothing to feel bad about."

"Me and Aidan turned a fun time for the three of us into two double-dates and it's our fault you didn't come," Kelly said. "I feel horrible about it."

"Don't feel horrible. I went to the pool and swam for a little bit after literally swimming right into someone like a torpedo, too. That was pretty embarrassing, but it turned out to be a lot of fun." Dani said with a smile.

"You torpedoed someone?" The perky brunette said with a laugh. "Oh, I bet that was fun>! I hope it wasn't a senior officer." She opened the brownie package and eyed it before looking back at Dani.

Dani laughed. "I did. I was swimming under water from the shallow end to the deep end, and it was all clear, then next thing I know, there was a rather large body in my lane. I was too close to stop, so I hit him right in the stomach. He was a good sport about it, though. He is a senior officer, too. Terry Walsh."

"You torpedoed Rocco?" Kelly asked in amazement. "I'm surprised you didn't break your neck when you ran into him."

"Well... the water did help a bit. Do you know him?" Dani asked, taking a sip of her coffee as she looked over at Kelly.

"Yah, he's the squadron commander of the Black Knights." she said. "He's also teaching me to fly Valkyrie fighters in the holodeck. He's a really sweet guy, too."

"He seemed to be really sweet. He's... huge." She couldn't help but blush at the statement she'd just made, but it was the truth.

"He has such a shiny bald head, too," Kelly pointed out. "Not to mention attractive." Kelly waggled her eyebrows at the petite blonde's blush.

Dani's blush brightened. "Kelly! I... I'm pretty sure someone like Pilot Terry..." Yes, she'd used his nickname she'd given him the night before without even thinking about it. "has someone in his life. Which means that Dani is out of luck there."

"Actually," Kelly started before she took a bite of her brownie after unwrapping it, unable to resist the siren song of the chocolate any longer. "If the rumors are true," she paused again to take a sip of coffee. "He is single. They say he was dating the former Executive Officer, but she left the ship back at Unity and he didn't seem too upset."

"I don't know him all that well, but I wouldn't mind getting to know him better. But, if he's fresh out of a relationship, I'm sure he's not ready to go there with anyone right now," Dani said. "Whether he seems upset or not doesn't mean that he isn't."

"I don't know, but it couldn't hurt," the brunette said. "He's a nice guy and deserves to be happy. You're nice and deserve to be happy. Besides, then we could all go out on triple dates together!"

The blonde smiled over at Kelly. "Maybe I'll see if he wants to get some dinner or something, but that doesn't mean it's a date. I'm sure he isn't exactly ready for anything like that after just ending a relationship with someone else."

"I don't know everything, but it couldn't hurt to try, Dani," Kelly said. "And I'm starting to get upset with you, too."

Dani blinked as she opened her brownie and took a bite of it. "Why? I don't think I did anything wrong."

"You just redeemed yourself," she said with a smile. "I can't stand to see someone ignoring the food of the gods."

"I'm sorry," The blonde said with a laugh. "If I'd known it was going to upset you, I would have stuffed the entire thing in my mouth when you first gave it to me."

Kelly looked horrified. "No. No. No. No. No!" she said. "You must savor it. Appreciate the chocolatey nuisances and flavors. Let it melt on your tongue and caress your throat before it goes to your stomach and sets off a wave of ecstatic emotions that have no rival."

"Someone loved their chocolate," Dani observed, taking another bite. "It is pretty fantastic, isn't it?"

"There's only one thing that produces an equal sensation and that's oxytocin released in a spectacular fashion," she said as she took another bite of brownie.

"What's that?" She was almost afraid to know what the answer was, but she was going to ask anyway.

"The mind-blowing explosion caused by an incredibly fleshly jink of the mommy-daddy dance," Kelly said.

Dani coughed, but thankfully, she didn't have anything in her mouth at the time, otherwise she'd be choking on the chocolate-y goodness Kelly brought her. That would not be a good thing for the fact she may never have eaten it again. "Kelly!" Now she was blushing bright red once again.

"What?" the little brunette asked innocently, then saw the blush light up the blonde's face like a warp core about to go critical. "You don't mean...you aren't....you are, aren't you?"

"A virgin? Yes, I am." Now she felt like she'd been committing a carnal sin.

"Wow..you're the second one I know," Kelly said. "My roommate is a virgin, too."

"It's not a bad thing, though." Where was that hole when she needed it? She'd absolutely crawl into it right about now and not give it a second thought.

"It isn't," Kelly agreed. "I was until I entered the Academy." She took another sip of her coffee and a bite of brownie. "It can be very pleasant if done right."

Dani raised her hand. "I'm a nurse, remember? I know all about the birds and the bees, so we don't need to go into anymore details. For me, I just haven't met anyone who was worth giving something like that to. I've been in one serious relationship my entire life, and I was head over heels in love with him. I was ready to finally go through with it, and found out he was already sleeping with my former best friend. She was pregnant with his kid and everything. Last I heard... they got married and moved somewhere on the east coast. As far as I'm concerned, the Gamma Quadrant isn't far enough away."

"I'm sorry to hear that," she said earnestly. "I would have tracked them both down and cut their heads off, then played Parrises Squares with them. I really hope you find the right man and the two of you live happily ever after."

"Anything is possible, I suppose, but I'm not going to force it. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, then I can't get hurt again, right?" She asked, taking another sip of her coffee.

"Right," Kelly agreed as she ate another bite of brownie. "But I hope you do and he's every bit as wonderful as you could ever dream of and more."

"Thanks, Kelly, but we'll see what happens," The blonde said, taking another bite of her brownie before chasing it with a sip of her coffee. "Most men freak out and run when I tell them I'm a... you know. But, there's always the few that will stick around and lay on the fake charm just to say they did the deed. I might be blonde, but I'm not stupid."

"The guy my roommate is seeing is a really sweet guy and really seems to care about her," she said. "She got sick with that virus and had a bad reaction to the cure and thought that he and her brother were plotting to kill her and he stayed by her."

"There are some good guys out there," Dani pointed out. "But... I don't know. We'll see."

"You should get to know Terry, though," Kelly said. "He's a genuinely nice guy and he'd probably treat you like a Queen. I mean, you torpedoed him and everything and he didn't get upset with you at all, right?"

"No, he didn't. Like I said, he was really sweet. We laughed a bit, talked a bit, and we did say we'd get together for dinner and wine one of these days."

"There you go," she said. "Get to know him, see how he is when you aren't torpedoing him and see how much you click with him."

"Maybe I will. I'll see if he's doing anything later," Dani said, but was hit with a sudden case of nerves.

"You really should," the brunette cadet encouraged her. "You couldn't do worse than having a free meal and some wine."

"I'll see if I can get in touch with him after our visit," The blonde promised.

"I could act as a liaison if you want," Kelly offered.

Dani shook her head. "While I appreciate that offer, I think it would be best if I did it myself. How would it look if I sent someone else instead of going on my own?"

"It wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that for a friend," she said. "I set up Ensign Hernandez with my roommate, Elisha Cherno."

"I'm a big girl. I can do it," Dani assured.

"Okay," Kelly said. "If you do get with him, I suggest plenty of foreplay before anything deeper than petting or kissing."

"Kelly!" Once again, the blonde was blushing bright red. She knew all about the birds and the bees, so this wasn't the least bit necessary. "Thanks for the pointers, but I think I know how everything is supposed to work. I'm a nurse, remember?"

"It's all practical knowledge until it's applied, then everything goes out the window," the brunette said with a laugh at how easy it was to get Dani to blush.

Dani took another sip of her coffee. "If anything like that ever happens, I'll deal with it in the moment. But... I can assure you I'm not ready for that to happen. Especially with someone I've only just met no matter how gorgeous they happen to be."

"He is really hot, isn't he?" Kelly said in agreement. "If I weren't a cadet, or attached...I would have made a play for him."

"Yes, he is," She agreed. "But, he may not even be ready to start seeing anyone again so soon after a breakup, so I'm going to keep things casual until he says otherwise."

"That's fair," Kelly said. "Let things happen naturally. Me? I'm borderline predator and have always gone after what I wanted. Quinn didn't have a chance when I set my eyes on him."

"Not everyone can be like that, though," Dani pointed out. "We'll see what happens. I won't rule anything out."

"I wish you the very best in whatever happens," the brunette said. "And if you ever want to talk or ask for tips, I'm just down the corridor in room Oh Five Oh Nine-Five."

"I'll keep that in mind, but I'm not so sure that it will happen. Time will tell, though. He might not even want to get together, either," She pointed out.

"Go in with a positive outlook and positive things will happen," Kelly said. "As long as it's not a positive pregnancy test...unless you want a baby."

"Oh, no... there won't be any of those if I have anything to say about it. Not for a long long long time to come," The blonde said. It wasn't that she didn't want it to happen someday, but someday wasn't any time soon.

"Me, too," Kelly said. "I made sure to get my shot updated regularly."

"Same here... even if I don't actually require needing one for obvious reason."

"Exactly," the cadet agreed as she finished her coffee.

Dani finished off what was left of her brownie, then rose to her feet to take the empty wrapper and cup over to the recycler. "I suppose you're going to want details after I see Terry, huh?"

"Only if you want to tell me," Kelly said. "I don't usually pry for details unless someone teases me with them."

"It's nice to have someone to talk to," the blonde said. "So, I suppose it could happen."

"Well, you know how to get ahold of me," she said. "It's not like I can rush back to the Academy with the current situation and it'll be fun having a fun-sized friend to talk to."

Dani laughed. "We are fun-sized, aren't we? It's always the little ones that are the most feisty."

"We are," Kelly agreed with a laugh. "Good things come in small packages and we're full of surprises. Once when I was at the Academy, a sports instructor was being a tiny bit condescending about my ability to reach a rope which we had to climb, so I climbed him and grabbed onto the rope and went up it."

"In situations like that, we fun-sized people have to do what we need to," The blonde stated. "It it means climbing a taller person like a ladder, then that's exactly what's going to happen. I would have done the same thing in that situation."

"He was never condescending after that again, that's for sure," Kelly laughed. "Especially not with my boot print on his head."

"I'm just glad you didn't get into trouble for doing it. That could have gone south really fast," She pointed out.

"It could have, but it didn't," the brunette said. "And that's the important thing. I did far worse than that at the Academy."

"Which I'm grateful for, otherwise, I might not have ever gotten to meet me new fun-sized partner in crime," Dani said, smiling over at Kel.

Kelly laughed. "Partner...I like that," she said. "I like you, Dani. You're fun and just my size."

The blonde laughed. "Then that's what we're going to call ourselves, and I like you, too. We're going to have a lot of fun in the future, I think."

"We are and I'm looking forward to it, Dani," Kelly said. "You're awesome."

"You're awesome yourself, and I'm looking forward to meeting the man who's captured your attention. Next time... I'm going to be there. I promise," Dani assured her.

"Quinn's a really sweet guy," she said. "I think he'd like you, too."

"I can't wait to meet him. We'll have to work something out."

"We will indeed, and you'll like him," Kelly said. "He's a bit naive, but really nice."

"Let's set something up," Dani suggested.

"What's some of your favorite things to do?" she asked. "Quinn is big on outdoor stuff."

"I like to travel and do the things that come with it. Like hiking and things like that. I'm sure we can work something out." She moved back over to the couch to settle down once again.

"I'm into a lot of physical things like swimming, dancing, gymnastics, and martial arts," Kelly said. "But my favorite is Bolian Vectorboarding. When we were on Yolvanda II, Quinn taught me how to kayak and that was fun, too. I'm always up for something new."

"I dance and swim, too. Swimming is how I met Terry, too. I actually beat him in a race. Forgot to mention that bit." Dani grinned, hoping she'd get the chance to do that again. "Hey... what if we all met up at the pool?"

"I like that idea!" she said. "How did you manage to beat him? He's got a foot on you easy."

"When do you think would be good?" She asked.

"The way things are right now, we should try for tomorrow night," Kelly said. "Or are you going to try to see Commander Walsh then?"

"I'll have to let you know. Maybe, if things go well, I can invite him along, too. What do you think?" Dani asked, looking over to Kel.

"Sure," Kelly said. "Just let me know and I'll get Quinn to come, too."

Dani smiled. "I'll let you know as soon as I do. I think it could be a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to it."

"I am, too," she said. "Are you sure you don't want me to put in a good word?"

"I'm sure, but thank you, though. I plan to go see him as soon as I can work up the nerve to," The blonde said with a smile. She was incredibly nervous about it, but she'd already promised her fellow fun-sized partner in crime she would do it.

"So why did you enter Starfleet, Dani?" Kelly asked to put her new micro-friend at ease by changing the topic of conversation. "Everyone has a story to tell."

"You know you asked me that already, don't you?" Dani asked, trying to stifle a giggle. "At lunch yesterday. I said I always wanted to help people."

"Oh," Kelly blushed a bit. "I'm sorry. I have so much crammed in my head at times that I forget other things. I probably told you that I forgot what an orange once too, didn't I?"

"Er... no. I definitely would have remembered that. Seriously?"

"Seriously," Kelly said. "I was studying two subjects and burning the bridge at two ends when I got hungry. My roommate offered me an orange and I was just looking at it and had no idea what it was or what I was supposed to do with it."

Dani couldn't help but laugh at that. "Sounds like you need to give yourself a little down time so you don't forget things like that."

"I do now, but you know how hectic life is in the Academy," she said. "I gave up so many hobbies and interests that I'm just now starting to get some back again."

"I know exactly what you mean. The same thing happened to me. There are a lot of sacrifices that need to be made, but it's so worth it in the end. Especially if you love what you do. That makes it even better."

"It is," Kelly said. "Getting to sit on the bridge at the Helm when I was on Gamma Shift and holding geosynchronous orbit over Yolvanda II was one thing, but when the Captain called me to Alpha Shift and I was the one to take Black Hawk out at warp eight...that was amazing." She got a dreamy look in her eyes as she remembered initiating warp after she set the course.

"As a cadet, too? That's got to be a dream come true. I don't know all there is to know about what you have and haven't done since we've only just met, but I'm incredibly proud of you, Kelly. I think you're going to do everything you want to do in life and then some. The entire galaxy is going to know the name Kelly Khan in the future." And Dani meant every word she'd just said, too.

"I'm certainly going to try," the young brunette said. "I made it through the Academy with two degree, Command school and Nova Squadron under my belt and I have goals which stretch far into the future. I want at least a dozen maneuvers named after me and even, dare I hope...A Khan class ship named after me."

"It could definitely happen, Kelly, and I hope that your future is full of everything you ever want," Dani said with a smile. "But, now you've got me curious about this Nova Squad. Explain that to me, please."

"Nova Squadron was an elite flight team at Academy. Each cadet flew a single-pilot spacecraft performing various formations and maneuvers as a demonstration of flight prowess and ability," Kelly said. "In order to even be considered for it, you had to be at the top of your class and have a proven record. Getting into it, however, almost got me kicked out of the Academy, but to be fair, it wasn't my fault."

"What happened?" Now Dani was well into what she was being told.

"You already know that cadets don't need a reason to party, right?" Kelly asked her. "Well, I was no exception and neither were the members of Nova Squadron. They had a special blue liquid for the new member to drink 'so she can have fun and be epic'. Oh yeah. I was epic, alright..."

"Uh oh... I sense there's more to this story." The blonde gestured for her to continue.

"Mmmhmm," Kelly said. "That special blue liquid was Romulan Ale. The most potent ale in the galaxy, and I drank a full glass of it." She shook her head. "I ended up stripping naked and dancing to the song Conga...in the middle of the quad. Conga stayed my call sign ever since. I had two months of special duty because of that, but....it was worth it!"

Dani couldn't help but laugh. Nothing like that had ever happened to her before, and now she was glad for it. "Oh, wow... I couldn't even imagine! How many people were there?"

"At a guess by the number of cadets interviewed by Security for the investigation...probably around two hundred," she said. "My instructors were nothing compared to the Assistant Dean. She came down on me like a ton of bricks and I wouldn't...couldn't...tell her who gave me the Romulan Ale. I didn't remember, truthfully. Only my grades and record saved me from getting booted from the Academy."

"That's something. You should be proud of yourself for what you've already accomplished," Dani said.

"I've been on the straight and..." Kelly hesitated. "Well, I really can't say I'm straight, but I've keep my nose clean since that happened." She thought of Lieutenant Corwin's incredible aspects and then forced herself to think of Quinn a second later.

Dani smiled. "That's what counts, then. You'll graduate soon enough, then, you'll be an Ensign. How's that make you feel?"

"Like I have about thirty years to go before I get what I really want," she replied. "But I'll take what comes to me one step and one rank at a time...and it will be glorious every step of the way."

"It certainly will be, and you'll have a lot of fun while you're doing it. You're already piloting an Akira class starship. That's an amazing accomplishment in its own right. There aren't many cadets that can say they've been given the chance to do something like that." The blonde smiled at her new friend. "Based on the things I've learned about you, I feel a lot safer knowing you're going to be the one at the helm, too. I can just imagine some of the craziness you're going to pull off to keep me and everyone else safe."

"I only got to pilot it because I'm the only Command cadet aboard and the Chief of Flight was really sick and not responding to treatment for the virus," Kelly said. "Still, it counts towards my credit hours and by the time we get back to the Alpha Quadrant and I can graduate, I'm hoping to have a few more things under my proverbial belt. In the meantime, I'm going to keep my nose clean and learn everything I can."

"That's a good way to do it, too. Your family will be quite proud of you when they're finally able to talk to you again," Dani said.

"I'm going to do my best to insure they are, but I have to do it for me, too," she said.

"Of course, you do, and you will. I think things are going to turn out just fine for you, Kel," The blonde said.

"I know they are," Kelly said. "I believe in myself and when belief fails, I find a kneecap to gnaw on."

Dani couldn't help but laugh. She'd been doing a lot of that since meeting Kelly. "That's too good. I wouldn't put it past you, either."

"I taught my cousin's puppy, Leikos, to do it," she said proudly. "My cousin is even shorter than me, but just as feisty."

"Shorter than you? Wow... I didn't think they came any shorter than us." Another laugh escaped her.

"They do!" Kelly said. "She's a whole five foot nothing."

"She's still growing, though, right?" Dani found herself asking.

"Nope," the brunette cadet replied. "She's ten years older than me. She just stopped growing at five feet tall, but she makes up for it in being feisty, friendly and loveable. She bent over backwards for me a number of times at the Academy and I'll never forget her."

"Wow... that's pretty tiny," The blonde said. "I'm sure she's quite proud of you, too."

"She is even though I gave her hell for dating my Flight Instructor at first," Kelly said quietly. "But I came around. It just took me some time to realize he wasn't treating me any differently than the other cadets because of it. I just wish he hadn't been such a butthole about how he treated cadets. I understand the privileges of rank and experience, but sheesh...there's no need to be a jerk while teaching that experience to others.

"When I came around, I even went to their wedding. Well, their official wedding," she continued. "It seems that they both got drunk and had ran off to a starbase to get married without telling anyone at first and then decided to make it officially official later on."

Dani smiled. "I'm glad you warmed up to it, then. Family is always important to have. Do they have any kids that you know of?"

"Uh huh," she said. "A little boy that I spoiled the crap out of every chance I got. I love kids. I'm the oldest in my family. I have three brothers and three sisters all younger than me and I used to spoil them, too."

"I'm glad you were there for your newest little cousin. I bet it wasn't easy leaving him behind when you went on the next leg of your journey," The blonde said, moving over to Kel to wrap an arm around her. "I've got a twin brother and a younger sister. I miss them, and my parents, like crazy. My brother is back on Earth, but my sister is on a ship with her husband. Neither of them have any kids, though."

Kelly returned the hug and smiled. "It wasn't and my I miss my Papa, Mom and brothers and sisters, too," she said. "Life is hard in space and a lot of officers choose to be single or move to a base if they decide they want to raise a family. Of course, Starfleet decides who is needed where and you need big favors to get a choice assignment for something like that. When's the last time you got to see your family?"

"It's been a little over three years since I've seen them," Dani answered, sounding a bit sad at the mention of that. "I'm hoping to get to see them again sooner rather than later, but we all know our current circumstances. How about you?"

"It's been about a year, but I still miss them really bad," Kelly said. "I write letters every week even if I can't send them right now. When we get control of the wormhole again, I'll get them out, but in the meantime, I'm going to keep writing my love and adventures to them. It helps even if I'm not getting anything back at the moment. Have you tried writing letters to help ease your sadness?"

The blonde nodded her head. "I write them all the time. They're all going to have a ton of reading to do when the wormhole is finally open again. I'm looking forward to the day that happens, too. Even if we don't leave here, I'm still looking forward to it."

"When the time comes and we both have leave coming to us, I'll personally pilot you back to the Alpha Quadrant," Kelly said. "I want to go back and see my family, too and I wouldn't dream of leaving my new fun-sized friend behind."

That news made Dani light up. "Oh, you are awesome, Kelly! Thank you so much!" She found her hugging her new friend again, only this time a little tighter than before.

The little brunette squeaked when Dani hugged her tighter and laughed. "You're welcome, Dani and you are awesome, too!"

"Thanks! Awesomeness does run in smaller packages."

"It does!" Kelly agreed. "We pack more of everything in because w're fun-sized and surprise people when we show them what we're capable of in every way."

"Isn't that the truth?" Dani asked.

"It is," Kelly said with a yawn. "Excuse me. Moving from Gamma to Alpha has messed up my sleep schedule. I've probably taken up enough of your time, too."

"I understand," She said, getting to her feet. "Don't be a stranger, okay?"

Kelly got up and gave her another hug. "I won't," she said. "You don't be a stranger, either and remember, if you need any advice about the fleshly jink of the mommy-daddy dance, I'm just down the corridor."

For, she'd lost count, Dani blushed again. Why did Kelly feel the need to torment her so? She must have done something horrid in a past life to deserve this. "I'll... uh... keep that in mind. Thanks."

Kelly gave a delighted laugh at seeing the blush. "Good night, Dani," she said with a wink. "See you next time." With that, she headed out.

After Kelly left, Dani fell over on her couch and buried her face in one of the throw pillows. She was so glad to be alone right now thanks to the blush that worked its way all the way up from her toes. It was clear how she was going to go out of this life, and she came in the form of a senior grade cadet who didn't seem to have a filter. Oh, but she fully intended to find a way to pay her back.
