Mission: Crossing Over
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: MD 1 (December 1, 2388) || 1300 hours

”Captain’s Log, Stardate 65917.4. It took three weeks and half a dozen relief vessels to stabilize Finnea Prime. As much as I would have preferred to warp immediately to the Convergence Zone, it was the combined requests of both Admiral O’Connell and Director Kazki that the Black Hawk remain to oversee the relief efforts.

I guess fate can wait, at least it had to. The probe wouldn’t launch until any time next year anyway.

I can’t stop thinking, thanks to the Selubassari, that Finnea itself is a piece of this grand puzzle. At least it was, until those eggheads helped themselves to whatever lay beneath the surface…”

Harvey sighed, setting his cold cup of Darjeeling down on the desk of his Ready Room. Joey, his new bride, still had an aversion to coffee, thanks to her visibly expanding abdomen. Even though he could easily consume his trusted beverage outside of their quarters, she could still smell it, taste it when they were in close proximity of each other. He promised to try something else, but tea… it just wasn’t the same.

Nor was the concept of command. He was a couple weeks shy of completing his first year as a Captain. Any sort of enjoyment and fulfillment he had had been utterly replaced with dread. Only death awaited them on the other side of the zone, at least, that’s what he was convinced of.

The Captain looked up and out the viewport where the blue hue of the zone permeated his vision. And now, at the start of the final month of the year, he could only help but be anything but absolutely certain. This would be the end. The end of him, the end of his ship and command.

And hopefully his end would prevent the end of the Federation.

”Only time will tell,” he said into the log recorder. Harvey again picked up his cold cup of tea. He sipped it, and grimaced at the taste.

”End log.”
