Mission: Crossing Over
Location: Captain's Quarters
Timeline: November 15, 2388

Joey walks through the door to the quarters she shared with her husband and their two dogs, only she wasn't alone. Tucked inside the Starfleet Academy sweatshirt she wore was a little kitten. She was over on DS15 picking up a few things when she noticed the little guy roaming the promenade alone, and after asking around, she couldn't find an owner for him. For fifteen minutes she went back and forth with herself, debating on leaving him there and hoping someone would come along to claim him, or taking him and giving him the loving home he obviously deserved to have.

Her heart won out, and now here she was, holding the little guy against her chest and cooing down at him. "You look like a Gizmo, you know that?" she asked him, earning a tiny little mew from the little guy. "I think that's what we're going to name you. It's fitting."

She made her way over to the replicator to acquire a bowl of food and water, then set them both down on the floor before making her way over to the couch. She sat down and placed him on her lap, giving his tiny little head a scratch. He really was adorable and already showed so much personality, but there was a very good possibility that she wouldn't be able to keep him. Still, though, with a crew compliment as large as the ship's was, she was sure she'd be able to find him a good home. However, Joey was going to see if she could keep him first.

Rico made his way out of the bedroom and gave a bark when he saw his Mama was home. He wasted no time running over to the couch and jumping onto it next to her, but before he could even settle down, he noticed what she had. His head cocked to one side, then to the other before going back again. What was this little thing, and why was it here? There was only one way to find out, so he leaned in to sniff it.

Gizmo looked to the huge beast that invaded his personal space and fluffed up even more than he normally was, giving a hiss in warning. When the beast didn't heed that warning a little paw was raised into the air and came into contact with Rico's nose, though it didn't faze him even a little. In fact, the canine went so far as to lick the little kitten, raising Gizmo's hackles even further.

Joey couldn't help but laugh as she reaches over to scratch Rico behind his ear. It seemed her eldest furbaby didn't mind having another little one around, but she didn't expect him to. "You like him, too, huh?" she asked, not really expecting an answer from the dog, but he did eagerly shower her with kisses.

Pequeno, who was always more laid back than his furry brother, made his way over to the couch and jumped up to join them. Like Rico, he immediately took notice of Gizmo and leaned in to give him a sniff, but instead of licking the kitten, he gingerly took the little guy into his mouth and laid down. Once he was settled, he placed the kitten near him, then tucked a paw over his little body when Gizmo tried to escape.

Gizmo gave a plaintive mew and relented to the fate that was forced upon him, earning another laugh from Joey. "Did I just lose him to the two of you?" she asked, petting both dogs at the same time. There wasn't much concern as to how they'd react to the newcomer as they were more prone to attack things that meant to harm her in some way, and neither sensed that in their new furry friend. "Just know there's a chance we may not be able to keep him, but I am going to try."

That admission earned a new round of kisses from Rico, and even Pequeno kissed her hand. "I love you both, too. Now, let's take a nap before we need to get busy," she said, curling up in her side. It wasn't long before the four of them were sound asleep.

She would know what Harvey thought about Gizmo soon enough, and if he didn't want to keep him long term, then maybe he'd let her keep him long enough to find him a good home.
