609 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Crossing Over
Location: Brigde
Timeline: MD35 || 1020 hours

Arjin Djinx!
That was supposedly his name. He spoke the words a couple of times. They seemed familiar when he spoke them and yet they still had no meaning to him.

And he was Chief of Science. Whatever that meant. Chief meant he was leading something. That felt right. But what or who was he leading? He still drew a blank. He was about to ask the computer voice when the man with the four jewels ordered them out.

He wondered if he could find another way to speak to the computer voice. Standing back in the large space he had found himself in the first place when he woke up, he decided to walk over towards some of the similar screens. It took him three attempts to find one which did actually respond.

“Uh, hm. Hello.”, he spoke.

The metallic female voice responded: “I do not understand your input.”

“Ahum. I am well Arjin Djinx. What can you tell me about me, I mean him?”

The console chirped. “Arjin Djinx. Lieutenant Commander. Chief Science Officer of the USS Black Hawk. Age 38. Trill. Male. Joined. Security Clearance Beta One. Data Access Level 7. …”

“Wow, wow, wow, hold on. Not that fast. Too much info at once.”, Arjin yelped.

“Holding”, the console replied.

His head spun with the availability of info.
“Let’s start all over again. What does Chief Officer Science mean?”

The voice chirped again and continued. “Chief of Science is the head of the Science department. The Chief Science Officer is responsible for all the scientific data the ship/facility collects, and the distribution of such data to specific section within the department for analysis. She/He is also responsible with providing the ship's captain with scientific information needed for command decisions. She/He also is a department head and a member of the Senior Staff and responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters.”

“Wow.” It seems he had a huge responsibility after all.

“Computer. Does Arjin Djinx have private quarters here?”

“Lieutenant Commander Djinx’s living quarters are located on deck nine. Cabin 02.”

Wanting to know more about himself, he decided to take a view there. Maybe there were things that would trigger his memory.

The way down to deck nine was a long one due to the ship being in disarray and people wondering around everywhere. Looking for answers.

Before he could enter however, he was met with those alien persons where gathering crew to depart. He was kindly but forcibly asked to follow. Remembering the agreement of their captain, he followed.

They were taken back one deck where they joined a larger group of yellow, red and blue dressed persons. Being lead off the ship.

Suddenly the calm gathering was interrupted by the scream of a woman and shots being fired at their rescuers.
He then felt someone take hold of him and restraining him so he could use him as a shield. The woman screamed that they were the enemy. And so it seemed. Arjin tried to wrestle free, hut his captor had a too good of a hold on him. However he tried, he could not get away. He was taken into a cross-fire.

Suddenly an emotional onslaught took an assault on his senses. The pain made him crumble in the alien’s hold. But it quickly subdued as a resistance seemed to grow from inside him. Spreading a calm influence all over him. Making it easy to focus again.
It was however the last thing he saw before a beam hit him and knock him out. Causing him to be dead weight in the alien's arms.
