Mission: Crossing Over
Location: Deck 10, Room 10|33
Timeline: 66009.0

He sat there in his cold chair completely immobilized by thought, he lightly held the padd in his hands keeping it at a fair distance as if it would reach out and strike him.

The words had stung him and he felt the hatred and vile that he had received. In those silent moments he reflected on the choices he had made, the people he had decided to hurt and the bridges he had decided to burn. He had been selfish and arrogant with his wants and the ones he cared for had been tossed aside.

But even in these moments of despair he knew he would still make the same choices. As terrible as they had been...he had wanted it and he knew he couldn’t let it go.

He knew that the USS Black Hawk was his fresh start and maybe he could change, or maybe he would slip into old habits and old behaviours. The ship had been an ideal choice for him, large enough for career advancement, the ability to study and analyze the risks of new governments and powers in the Gamma Quadrant.

The ship had been traveling quietly into the Finnean Convergence Zone for a few minutes and Gaius had started to drink some water when the ship abruptly stopped. Sirens started to blare and flashes of red filled his vision as he ran into the corridor.

He stopped and yelled at a passing Ensign.

“WHAT’S GOING ON!” He stared at the Ensign who mouthed the response but Gaius never got to respond back as he felt the odd sensation, almost magical feeling of being lifted into the air and looking up as the bulkhead grew closer and closer.

===Some time later===

The test results were looking good. The man had been found lying unconscious on the floor after everyone else had woken up and brought here. It wasn't until their memories had been restored that the Medical staff could do anything with him. He had a severe concussion, several broken bones throughout his body, and many lacerations. The broken bones and lacerations had been taken care of promptly. But, the concussion had not fared well from being neglected for so long. As such, even after repairing the damage, Jayla had opted to keep him in an induced coma for quite some time.

But, now, everything seemed to have finished healing. She turned to her nurse. "Rigby," she said. "Prepare a hypodrip." She gave her the correct measurements of medicines to add to the saline.

"Yes, Doctor," answered the tiny nurse, and she set to work, preparing the solution and attaching the device to the man's arm.

All that was left to do now was wait for him to wake up.

Gaius felt odd and unbalanced.

He strained to remember where he was and why he was laying down. In a flash he remembered the sirens and the red lights of red alert he was confused and a little bit frightened. He slowly opened his right eye needing a moment to adjust to the light.

Things began to sharpen into view and he saw two women in front of him looking down at him reading a tricorder and making notes.

"....Uh where am I?"

"What happened?

"Who are you?"

His question were mixed in with his grogginess and he could feel the blood pumping in his head, very loudly.

"Doctor Kij," answered Jayla. "Can you tell me your name?" Of course, she knew his name, but she wanted to make sure he hadn't suffered more memory loss than his crewmates.

"...it's Gaius...uh Weber" He said raising a hand to his head. His head swiveled from left to right realizing he was in sickbay on a biobed.

"How long have I been out? What happened?" He said gingerly up righting himself on the bed.

"Quite a lot," answered Jayla, running a few scans on him. "We went through the barrier into the convergence zone. Everyone lost our memories. You were found unconscious near a bulkhead with a severe concussion, among other things. If we'd remembered how to fix you up sooner, it wouldn't have been so bad. How are you feeling? Any pain?"

"Uh..." He said nervously feeling his arms and legs trying to elicit any pain or sore spots that had been numbed while he was asleep.

"I don't think so...ah crap" He said holding his head. He didn't send a reply back.

"No pain...are we returning to a Starbase for repairs?" It seemed the most likely thing to do especially in an area so little explored up until now. At least at a Starbase he could send the reply and see how it was received.

"Not yet," she replied. "Actually, we can't. But, it's okay, because the ship is actually not as damaged as one might think. Engineering is working overtime, but they should be able to put her right. You're sure there's no pain at all?" she asked skeptically. He'd been in pretty bad shape, after all. The odds of having made a perfect guess on pain killers were pretty long.

"I'm sure I'll be feeling the effects soon enough....how long before I can return to duty?" He asked realizing that his own workload had probably piled up.

"I want you to rest for two days," she replied sternly, yet with her characteristic cheerfulness. "Two days! No less. And when I say rest, I mean you are to do nothing more strenuous than reading. I suggest Harry Potter or The Chronicles of Narnia- both very engaging. Then I want you back here to make sure you're healing up. We'll see about putting you on light duty at that time. I'll send Nurse Rigby to check up on you from time to time. She'd better not catch you playing raquetball or dancing or anything. Because she's kind of a mother hen and will probably tuck you into bed." She grinned at him. "Got it?"

"Two days?" He asked almost hopeful that there was even a little bit of wiggle room with the doctor. Her long stare at him made him backtrack and laugh lightly.

"Alright, alright I'll rest" Gaius said holding up his hands in surrender. He had to focus on rest and he would hold himself to that, it didn't make much sense to ignore the doctors advise and at the very least it would give him some time to catch up on what was happening to the ship.

A few minutes later he was guided out of sickbay under the watchful eyes of Nurse Rigby whose eyes marked his exit with the disapproval only a dotting mother could give. He slowly walked back to his room noticing the repair crews rushing back and forth repairing blown out EPS conduits and pushing dangling cables back into the walls and ceilings of the Black Hawk.

"Hey." A voice said snapping Gaius out of his foggy trek.
