Tightening the Chain

Posted on 11 Nov 2015 @ 10:30pm by Lieutenant Commander Roget del Rosario & Commodore Harvey Geisler

404 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Rude Awakening
Location: Security Office
Timeline: MD 7 || 1100 hours

Something about this made Harvey damned uncomfortable. He was perfectly fine with his command structure, and hadn't given the situation a single thought until del Rosario came along. Still, with as big as the ship was, Harvey could use the extra pair of hands keeping everything in line. Walsh had his hands full with the squadron, and Doctor Kij was better left out of the chain for now. Perhaps it had something to do with how she was able to influence him. And her being medically able to remove anyone unfit for duty was enough responsibility as it was.

Commander del Rosario was, as the man himself put it, the best and natural choice.

And that was why Harvey found himself walking into the Security Office, right where the computer said he could find the man. He nodded at the enlisted man behind the desk. "Commander del Rosario?" Harvey asked, though he could clearly see the Lieutenant Commander through the window.

Roget saw Geisler approach the security desk. He touched a control on his own desk which relayed a short message to Crewman Freeman to send the Captain back. As Geisler approached his office door, Roget again touched a control, this time activating the doors to allow the Black Hawk's master to enter.

"What can I do for you Captain?" he asked.

Harvey stepped inside, empty handed, and waited for the doors to close. "I came by to follow up on our discussion from yesterday," he simply told him.

Second Officer, Roget thought. He motioned towards a chair opposite him. "Go on."

The Captain cut straight to the point. "As of now, 1100 hours on Stardate 65463.0, I hereby install you as the Black Hawk's Second Officer. My yeoman is sending out the notice to inform the crew in five minutes. Understandably, you'll have to adjust your duty schedule to accommodate the required watches on the bridge."

"Of course." He paused. He had to know. "If I may ask, Captain, what were Commander Kos' thoughts on this?"

"She suggested it actually," Harvey responded honestly. "Fully supports it too. Seems you made an impression on her."

Interesting, he thought. I guess she's more than a pretty face.

"Thank you Captain."

"Don't thank me yet," Harvey said as he turned to leave. "Just wait until you see the paperwork." Then with a nod, he said, "Commander," and exited the office.
