Sickness

Mission: Outbreak
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD8

Staggering like a pair of drunkards on a mid-afternoon holiday on Risa, the two humans entered the ships medical facility via the east door, one in particular looking rather worse for wear. He had his arm draped heavily over the shoulder of the man who was supporting him on the journey to sickbay. Barely conscious, the man struggled to keep his eyes open as they entered the room.

“I need help here!” his companion yelled as he almost dropped his friend on the floor. He too was unwell, sweating and his eyes struggling to stay open. Kilmartin had only been on the Black Hawk for a few days but already he and his bunkmate had seemingly succumbed to the illness apparently sweeping the ships hallowed halls.

Dr. Road looked up from her examination of the Captain's Yeoman- whom she had patched up nicely and was currently resting without sleeping- to see a couple of men entering, obviously barely awake. "Uh," she said, looking around for unoccupied cots and not seeing any. "Come over here," she instructed, indicating a bit of floor that was out of the way of everything. "I'm sorry, but we're completely out of cots."

Kilmartin struggled towards the indicated spot curtesy of the Doctor and (as gently as possible) dropped his companion into the space. Standing upright for what seemed like the first time in ages, the Lieutenant rubbed his eyes as he started filling the Doctor in on what had happened. "We were in our bunk room, I was trying to get some sleep, drifting in and out of consciousness when I woke up to find him standing over me with a knife. I wrestled it out of his grip as he yelled something about a Klingon targ. I think he was hallucinating..." The pilot suggested.

"There's been a lot of that going around," said Dr. Road, quickly scanning the prone form. "I'm going to sedate him," she decided, taking out her hypospray. "A few have inadvertently injured themselves during hallucinations or delusions." She pressed the spray to his neck and checked her tricorder. "Just like the others," she said, shaking her head. "He's still conscious, but unable to respond. How are you feeling?"

"Rough..." The Lieutenant sighed as he rubbed his eyes again. "I feel like I haven't slept for weeks."

"There's a lot of that going around, too," replied Dr. Road. "Dr. Kij is working on it in the lab with Lieutenant Bast and Commander Casey. I'm sure they'll have a cure in no time. We definitely need to keep him here. If you'd like to stay, you're welcome to as well. Either way, I need to take a blood sample to test for the virus," she added, taking out a syringe and vacuum tube.

Kilmartin shook his head slowly so as to not make his head feel worse. "I need to report in to my department head. I'm due on duty for the first time in the not too distant future," he smiled as he rubbed his temples, "despite the head." He took a deep breath and rose to his full height. "I'll be fine."

"You will absolutely not be fine," said Abbey firmly. "I'll inform your department head that you're on medical leave until further notice. You are staying here."

The Fighter Pilot let out a sigh and collapsed onto the floor next to his sedated friend. "You could get us some pillows..." the human frowned as he shifted. There was no point in arguing with a medical officer that could revoke ones flight status.

"I'll have some more cots replicated," she promised. "For now, just try to get comfortable."

"Comfortable," the Pilot smirked before letting out another yawn. "That's easy to say when you haven't been awake as long as I have..."

"Quite probably," admitted Abbey. "Let me know if you need anything, okay?"

Jonathan nodded as he got comfortable on the deck plating, well as comfortable as one could possibly get on carpeted metal panelling. He folded his jacket beneath his head for a pillow and soon began staring at the ceiling of the medical facility. Same routine, just a different place. He didn't hold out much hope for getting any sleep.

'Hope?' He scoffed inwardly. It remained to be seen if there was any hope left on this ship. Had he joined the voyage of the damned?
