Mission:
Risky Business
Location: Security Office
Timeline: MD 2 || 0930 hours
Camila sat in the 'bullpen' area of Security with a mug of Raktajino in her hands as she sat on the edge of the desk. "So there I was, pants around my ankles, the toilet paper three feet away, my phaser tangled up in the holster and this huge Klingon pops up out of the bushes five feet away. I was just starting to think that it was a really good thing that my pants were already down or I would have filled them. Then he goes 'Oh. Excuse me. Carry on.' turned his back...and left."
Harvey entered Security, sans his coffee mug thanks to the clumsy Assistant Chief Engineer. Of all of the things he hadn't expected to see today was a room full of laughter, much less hear a story of the Chief's indecency. Above all, he noticed that the team hadn't paid attention to his arrival. Rather than draw attention to himself, he stepped inside just enough to allow the doors to close, but still made no other action other than glancing at the nearby chronometer to record how long it would take to be noticed.
Cooper was laughing, her joy filled laughter filling the room. She couldn't breathe at one point. "So he just left you there, how....polite.." she lost it again.
Joey sat not too far away with Rico laying by her side. She hadn't seen the Captain standing there, but that was because the brunette was too busy laughing at the story Camila had just told. "Maybe... you should have called him back to offer some assistance."
"Oh frak no! I heard they have ridges down....." The sixth sense that Camila had picked up during her service alerted her that the three women were no longer alone in the room. She whipped her head around and was already in the process of sliding off the desk when she saw the Command red uniform and the tall figure wearing it. More importantly, she saw the four pips on the collar of the uniform. "Captain on deck!" she called as she came to attention, her face flushing red at having been caught unaware in her own domain and by the Captain of the ship no less.
Looking in the direction Camila was, the laughter died in her throat when she saw the Captain standing there. Joey rose to her feet and snapped to attention. How long was he standing there? Did he hear them? Were they about to get torn a proverbial new one? She had no idea, but was mentally preparing herself for whatever was to come. "Captain."
Cooper jumped to her feet and tried not to look busted.
"Lieutenants," Harvey simply replied, stifling a small grin. A small part of him enjoyed catching his officers with their pants down... metaphorically speaking of course. "I see I'm not interrupting much of anything."
"Not at all," Camila said before she realized what she just said. "I mean, we were taking a small break before getting back to the matter at hand, Captain."
"Indeed," Harvey replied, releasing a small smirk at the Chief's expense. "And what matter would that be?"
"Security and weapon drills, Sir," Camila said.
"Investigations reports a zero percent chance of anyone in the crew currently being Consortium, Captain. We've run profiles based on the actions taken by Commander Del Rosario and Commander Bast and no untoward activity has been noted by the computer or our profilers," Corwin stated.
"What she said..." Cooper pipped up, " And efficiencies in repealing boarders and other basic drills have improved by 20% from previous..." Trying to think of logical stats and pulling one at random from the dozens floating in her mind. A part of her mind wondered if Klingons did have ridges down there and wouldn't that hurt? Even as she focused on the Captain.
Harvey grunted at the mention of boarders. That particular incident may have been months ago, but the pain was still all too real. "Good to hear," he told Corwin. "I'm sure Lieutenant Di Pasquale has briefed you on our current mission?"
"She has, Captain, and we're doing our parts to make sure everything is running as smoothly as possible," Corwin replied.
"Good," Harvey replied. "We may very well want to make sure we have regular patrols of the ship when we enter the nebula. No shields means there's a possibility for Consortium agents to board. I don't want that."
"Lieutenant Cooper is already doing that, Sir," Camila said. "I also have to brief you and Commander Teixeira on the results of our Security briefing. I sent a request through Petty Officer Rasputin this morning for a time, but haven't heard back yet."
Harvey was surprised. Usually Senior Chief Rasputin was more on top of those. "You should be meeting with Commander Teixeira today," Harvey replied. "Especially since that is why I'm not here." Without skipping a beat, he explained with a smile, "Impromptu inspection. I want to see how everyone is fairing now that we're well on our way."
"I've also been in one meeting after another since we got our orders, Sir," Camila said. "Since then, I haven't spent much time checking for messages. I'll get with him right away, Captain."
Harvey nodded, turning to look at Cooper. "What does the patrol schedule look like?" And, with a glance at Joey, he also asked, "I suppose we'll be tasking the K-9 units as well?"
"Yes, Captain. The K-9 units will be prepared for patrols," Joey answered.
Cooper handed him the PADD with the new suggested patrol routes, "As you can see we've double them up in personnel and frequency, there are standing positions and the rovers are on a randomized schedules." She pointed out the basic plan for a few minutes then said, "Lt. Corwin if you fill us in on your patrol routes I can incorporate that into what I have so we're not reinventing the wheel.." She smiled. Part of her mind working on a song in multipart harmony.
"Currently, Ensign Hernandez and I are going to be pairing up and running various patrols on different decks," Joey replied. "We'll likely start near Engineering and take it from there."
Cooper nodded her mind working, "Good idea, spread out the experts. If you need support there should always be a unit fairly close by, the patrol routes will be allowing for a decent overlap." She could see the routes in her mind, estimated times and so on. It was like a schematic in her busy mind.
"What about the bridge, computer core, and so on?" Harvey asked. "Is there anything we can do internally to prevent the Consortium from boarding?"
"Yes, Sir," Camila said as she pulled up a terminal that had changes she had implemented for security of the ship after she had been made Chief and angled it so he could see it.
1. Any use of high risk systems immediately gets reported to the Chief of Security unless the person is of Commander rank or higher. In the event that such usage by a Commander or higher rank will result in a ship wide Security alert to be determined by the danger the crew and ship would undergo.
2. Any unauthorized use of high risk systems will result in an immediate force field erected in that area.
3. Any attempt at bypassing systems to weapon lockers or armory will result in an immediate transport to the Brig.
4. Any attempt by an officer to circumvent restrictions will result in an alert being sent to the Chief of Security and the XO/CO.
5. Any use of phasers on the ship without a boarding by enemy combatants will result in them being transported immediately to the Brig.
Harvey read the short list and gave the Lieutenant a nod. It seemed everything thus far was progressing quite nicely. "Well then," he said to the three lieutenants, "I am impressed that you have everything under control thus far. When are your patrols scheduled to start?"
"They've begun Sir, just this shift." Cooper replied, "Thought it better to work it in now in case there were any logistical concerns that cropped up with practical use of the new patrol system." She replied, a part of her mind working various security problems which helped keep her still.
"One can only hope there are none," Harvey said. "This ship nearly fell to the Consortium once, and I certainly won't allow it again."
"That's not going to happen on my...er...watch," Camila said as she caught herself before she said 'ship'. "Sir," she added.
"Good," Harvey said. He almost said that he'd hate to break in yet another Chief of Security, but he felt it would come off too harsh. "Just don't let us get caught with pants down. The Consortium won't be as forgiving as a Klingon."
Joey covered her mouth and coughed, using both as a cover to keep from laughing. "We will see to it that our pants are where they should be, Captain."
Cooper smiled and glanced away briefly regaining control of herself.
Camila blushed. "No, Sir and they won't catch me with my pants down. I'll be ready for them at every turn and so will everyone in my department, Sir."
Harvey nodded. He thought about asking them what else they'd been working on for the mission, but he wanted to hear Teixeira's thoughts on the matter first. Harvey was considering leaving when a thought popped into his mind. "Miss Cooper, how are the utility belts working out?"
Cooper blinked once and reshifted her mind, "Great Sir, they are allowing greater flexibility in reacting to immediate threats in training. Downside is items tend to shift a little when running but I've been working with Commander Bast to create highly modable belts that should allow each security officer to customize it to suit their needs, running gait, and the like." She pulled it up on her PADD, "As you can see there's a number of case options for the door poppers alone that are geared for holding it in place. I guess you could say each one is customized to its owner. As we get feedback from the officers we can mode it as needed." She stopped realizing she'd given enough information and was trying not to babble in front of the Captain.
He nodded again. "That's good, Lieutenant." With a beat, he asked what he thought would be the final question of the inspection. "Are there any departmental needs I should know about?"
Cooper glanced at Lt. Pasquale and stepped back.
"No, Sir," Camila said, knowing that Cooper would have given her a report on any needs the moment they came up. She looked at Joey. "Does the K-9 units have any needs, Lieutenant Corwin?"
"Not at this time, Lieutenant," Joey responded.
"Then I thank you ladies for a simple," shooting a glance to Camila, he added, "and interesting inspection. Carry on," Harvey ordered. He then turned and headed for the exit.
Camila flushed after he left. "From now on, all embarrassing stories are to be shared off duty and in private. Understood?"
Cooper nodded but stifled a relieved laugh after the Skipper had left. "Ridges..." Was all she said, grinning evilly.
"Rico and I are going to run patrol. Oh, Lieutenant Di Pasquale... I fear this isn't something you're going to live down for some time to come," Joey said with a smile. "By any of us." And with that, she made her way out of Security with Rico in tow, contacting Hernandez so he and Pequeno could join them.
