It's Up To You

1,216 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: Click Three Times
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 6 || 1730 Hours

An hour after Joey had left, Camila opened her eyes again and felt slightly better; at least most of the drugs had worn off and her mind was clearer. She reached over and picked up the PADD and saw more reports had came in while she had been sleeping and she regretted not being able to personally see to her department. With a sigh, she set the PADD down and reached for the combadge on the table and tapped it once.

=^= Di Pasquale to Cooper.=^=

Cooper had spent the last 2 hours coordinating security teams for patrols, reports, inventory, and other details. They were still on emergency power but at least they had comms now. Other senior security security officers were a big help in taking aspects on, like keeping the Chief informed. Cooper knew the Chief was supposed to be resting that never stopped any security officer from trying to work, she knew that from personal experience. She tried not to dwell on the 9 dead security officers as she assisted a tactical specialist in repairing the torpedo launcher that had malfunctioned. Though Cooper eagerly kept up on her tactical training as well as her security training it had been awhile since she needed to work something this complicated hence just the assist but this was a major glitch and now that security had settled she wanted to make sure this got fixed properly. Which is why she was arms deep in some piece of equipment when her combadge went off, she got someone else to hold the loose part for the specialist and stepped away, rubbing her eyes. She couldn't even take a proper stimulant, too much caffeine put her to sleep and she's reached her quota. She'd been awake overall nearly 24 hours so far and even 'the energizer bunny' could get a bit run down.

=/\="Cooper Here, Chief." She said actively cutting off the joke she'd been about to make but pleased to hear her sounding well. Cooper if her Boss wanted a report she'd ask otherwise Cooper was doing her best not to bother her Chief's recovery and doing her part to ensure the department was still here when Camilia got back.

=^=I'm going to need you to keep in contact with me, Lieutenant,=^= Camila said. =^=At least until I get out of Sickbay, you're my eyes and ears for Security. What's the latest?=^=

She flagged her tired brain into order and forced it to give up its secrets. =/\="Of course Chief, Glad you're up for it. In summary is we lost 9 personnel, including Ensign Hernandez..." She paused blinking but it was brief and her professional tone continued, "They have been properly seen too..." =/\= Her voice somber. =/\="Other personnel accounted for though reports are still incomplete..." She paused thinking as she rubbed her eyes again, someone had even caught sight of Corwin walking briskly somewhere but she waved off the officer before he could get a report and with everything else, Cooper hadn't had time to follow up. That had happened more than once with the chaos sometimes a quick head count was all one had time for. It was enough her colleague was alive and mobile. Then wondered "why can eyeballs hurt? I mean you wouldn't think they could" she thought to herself then forced her mind back on track, "All prisoners are properly secured under double guard, all vital areas are protected and patrols continue. I've got teams checking the location and status of all hand held weapons on board and tactical is going over ships weapons with a fine tooth comb, helped by engineering when they can. I've started the department on a rotation to ensure at least small percentage are getting to rest at any point so we can keep everyone alert, coupled with rotating duties." =/\= She said briskly, managing to stifle a yawn just barely and doing her best to boil it down to the main points as her mind tried to run off in several directions at once. She forced it to the tasks to hand with the ability of long practice. Though a part of it was still mentally pulling apart the launcher.

=^=Lieutenant Corwin told me about Ensign Hernandez and she has Pequeno. I'm proud of what you're doing, Lieutenant Cooper,=^= Camila said. =^=I ordered Corwin to take some downtime and you're next on the rotation. I would have offered it to you first, but I've had limited access to a combadge and PADD until the Captain sent me one for an assessment meeting he held. Was there any problem with the prisoners?=^=

Cooper mentally cursed for not remembering to get her Chief a new combadge, her mind worked on multiple tracks so well and so often it was annoying to have things slip, maybe she was more tired then she thought. =/\="Details are sketchy, we've not had time for complete reports but it appears the escapees didn't do much before they were re-captured. If they so much as twitch wrong security in the brig have orders to stun them immediately. Fortunately we got to them quickly..."=/\= She paused, =/\="Getting them back to Deck 4, especially the unconscious ones took a bit of...creative thinking..."=/\= She said remembering Lord Deadweight and that damned harness, she still had bruises...

Camila listened to everything that Cooper told her and nodded even though the Assistant Chief couldn't see her. =^=I'm glad they're all back in custody. Do you have any other information for me before the Doctor catches me using my combadge and PADD and orders me to rest again=^=

Cooper shook her head even though Camila couldn't see her, then mentally shook herself, =/\="Not at this time, we can't detect any external threats either via visual means, all we can see is a kind of nebula soup as sensors are still down but no ones shooting at us so I'll call it a win. More reports will be coming but it'll take time to compile them all..." =/\=She rubbed her eyes again, seriously who the heck decided eyeballs should be able to hurt? Would anyone notice if she got shades? =/\="I can make sure you get an hourly report if you'd like, Chief."=/\=

=^=You sound like you need some downtime, too, Lieutenant,=^= Camila said. =^=Hand off to a duty officer and take a few hours. I'm getting updates on my PADD.=^=

Cooper opened her mouth to argue but she knew that tone, it was an order, no less. She knew from experience that arguing such orders was a losing preposition. So she compromised. =/\="Of course Chief, I just have a few things to finish up here then I'll be on my way...."=/\= She paused, =/\="On a personal note I am glad you're ok Chief"=/\= her voice sincere.

=^=Thanks, Cooper,=^= Camila responded. =^=Now get some rest after you coordinate with Science personnel and Doctor Abrams in Medical. Two person teams, top to bottom of the ship, and I'll see you when I get out of here or you have time to visit.=^=

=/\="You got it Chief, rest up so the universe can once again quake at your approach..."=/\= She joked but there was a tone of honest respect in there and closed the comm, "Ok where do we stand on that launcher repair?" She called as she walked back over.
