The interrogation room was a small room, barely ten square meters. It was dark and damp, and very sparse - there was nothing in the room save for a chair. However, unlike the holding cell where they had all been confined, there was a hint of technology here. The faint hum of some sort of technology could be heard, and although the room's periphery was very dark, there was a bright spot in the center, illuminating the chair, where the Hunters pushed down their guest.
Her leg still dangled strangely, Dr. sh'Eshaatraq and Nurse Sutherland having been unable to do anything other than offer her verbal comfort. Karyna had adjusted to the pain; she could still feel the throbbing radiating from the site of the fracture, but its constant presence had somehow normalized. The door closed as the Hunters left. The pink-haired Master Warrant Officer, finally alone, felt the tears well up in her eyes and roll down her face; they cascaded down her cheek before dripping onto the collar of her uniform. She sobbed silently for a few seconds, the emotional last few days finally catching up with her.
The Interrogator watched her from the darkness, sensed her despair and her pain. Like most of her crewmates, her mental barriers were weak, and made even weaker by her state of mind. He stepped out of the shadows and observed her closely.
"Who are you?" he asked.
Karyna looked up at the man. He looked terrifying. She struggled to maintain her composure, a difficult task due to both the pain from her fracture and the fear induced by the situation and the alien standing before her. "Master Warrant Officer Karyna Fordyce, Serial number nine-nine-zero-five-alpha-zero-four-epsilon-eight," she said, falling back on her training. "Who are you?"
The Interrogator took note of her reaction to his appearance. Slipping inside her mind, he amplified the impressions, making himself even more intimidating and fearsome. He towered over her and glared at her. "I ask the questions here," he replied. "Why have you invaded our territory?"
Her heartbeat faster as the terror of being trapped with this...this...monster set in even deeper. "Master Warrant Officer Karyna Fordyce," she stammered. "Serial number nine-nine-zero-five-alpha-zero-four-epsilon-eight."
He stepped closer to her, his face close enough for her to feel his hot breath on her face. His deep yellow eyes burrowed into hers, as he played with her perceptions. Her entire field of vision was filled with his eyes, rimmed with red flames, the heat searing her skin. His voice boomed, thunder in her ears. "Master Warrant Officer Karyna Fordyce, Serial number nine-nine-zero-five-alpha-zero-four-epsilon-eight," he repeated. "Why have you invaded our territory?"
"We didn't invade," she whimpered, the combination of terror and pain moving her closer and closer to a full on panic attack. "We were in a battle and then....you attacked us. We didn't do anything to you."
"You invaded our space," pointed out the Interrogator. "That is an attack. And we will defend ourselves."
His voice was grating, coming as from the depths of hell itself. His flaming eyes bore into her, and he breathed fire, scorching her flesh.
"Where did the other ship go?"
The pain was intense. Karyna couldn't think straight. All she could do was yell. A guttural scream pushed it's way out of her mouth, filling the chamber with the sound of her agony. The sound continued until she lost consciousness.
The Interrogator sighed. This one was too weak for even a simple interrogation. He waved for the Hunters to bring her back to the holding cell.
