273 words; about a 1 minute read

Voss returned to his quarters. He walked over to the replicator, "Computer. Voss program number 3."

The replicator produced a small, heavy glass with a thick base. In the glass were 2 ice cubes.

Voss picked it up walked to his desk. He placed the glass down, leaned over and opened a draw, and took out a bottle of aged whiskey. He pulled the cork out, and poured two fingers in the glass, then he replaced the cork and put the bottle back in the draw.

He picked the glass up and walked over to his couch and sat.

He took a sip of his drink, and savored the sensation as the whiskey warmed his throat.

"Computer. Personal log, current stardate." He paused for a few seconds. "There's a woman on the ship, very beautiful, and I was looking to, maybe, have a relationship with...a physical relationship. I probably overdid my approach. I tried to be charming, and overdid it. She said she's not looking for anything except maybe friendship." He took another sip. "She said that I have to bring my 'A' game. I don't usually play games. I've never had problems getting a date all through the academy. I was just myself, which seemed to work. I'm intelligent. Been told I am goodlooking. And a lively conversationalist." He finished his drink and placed the glass on the end table. "I think I'm just going to concentrate on my job. End log." He stood up, walked to the replicator and placed the glass down, and tapped the 'recycle' control.

Then he walked to the door, left his quarters, and returned to main engineering.
