Mission:
Epilogue
Location: Counselor's Office
Timeline: 31 december 2389
Before a new mission and especially after a troublesome one as their last, a visit to the Counselor's office was obligatory. Arjin did not like it one bit. He hated mind/ emotional games.
Djinx did not mind. Like all symbionts he was mostly curious. Confident he would outlive any counselor he spoke with.
In his current state of mind, he hated even more than normal having to make this visit. He had tried to avoid it. But had found no loophole.
He pushed the chime of the office. Inwardly making a sigh. His thoughts briefly jumping to the thought this was the wrong Counselor's office. Only one worth visiting in his opinion was Roshe's.
"Hello," Tivan said once her office door opened. The Trill's disposition was clearly not an open one. Tivan might need to alternate her methods here. "Won't you come in? I was just wrapping up my latest notes in my clinical study, so we should be able to begin in just a moment."
Arjin stepped inside and nodded. Waiting to be pointed to a couch probably? In the mean time he just observed the interior. Finding it quite different to what he expected.
Seeing the man wasn't the talkative sort, Tivan quietly gestured toward the nearest lounge pad for him to make himself comfortable. Any attempt to get him to talk about himself would likely be met with stony silence, so Tivan seated herself and tried a different tact.
"You are the Chief Science Officer, unless I am mistaken. I have been meaning to speak with you regarding the use of the science labs, as well as potentially offering my services such as they are to your department." She let a pregnant pause hang in the air, hoping it would evoke interest in the seemingly deadpan man. "Aside from psychology, I am well-versed in the social sciences, such as anthropology, linguistics, and politics. In exchange for access to the science labs to run my clinical processes and simulations, I would avail myself to you in those additional capacities."
Arjin winced when the Vulcan used the word politics. Nodding and sitting at the designated spot he replied cautiously. "Thank you Counselor Tivan.", he said with a smile. "You are correct. I do plead guilty. I am the Chief Science Officer."
He made sure to sit comfortably. "And like all other Department heads you are also welcome to make use of the science labs if they are free. Just make sure you send the request through the proper channels and we will fit your reservation in. No need for favors in return."
"You misunderstand my meaning," Tivan said slowly. "I offer my services in exchange for a standing appointment, as I will require regular access to one of the labs. You may install me as a social science officer, perhaps, to facilitate the standing appointment that my clinical study will require."
"If you want to use one of the labs on a regular official basis, you are welcome. As long as I will be kept aware of which studies will be conducted there and their updates.", he replied. "I will have to talk to Commander Walsh if you want to become a permanent member of the science department."
Tivan shrugged. "I will leave it to you, Commander. My offer stands as given. I appreciate the interdepartmental cooperation in any event." With that business settled, she offered the man a tight smile. "Now, what brings you to my office today?"
Arjin arched an eyebrow. "The obligatory visit before a new mission. Off course."
And Tivan raised an eyebrow to match. "I have no such obligation... at least, not for you." She had a list of personnel who had been infested by the Dolmoqour, and Arjin was not on it. "If you have nothing to get off your chest, Commander, then you are free to go."
"Great.", he exclamed. Already half standing. "My chest is very clear of thing to get rid off."
"I am pleased to hear that, Commander," Tivan said, guiding him to the door. "If you do not have your health, then you have nothing."
Nodding before leaving he couldn't resist to add : " Thank god for Doctor Kij then for watching over that."
"Well said," Tivan agreed. Almost ironically, she said, "Live long and prosper.
