Making the ship go round and round

Imposters Among Us
Location: Main Engineering/Main Bridge
Timeline: July 2, 2390
Ranul was down in Main Engineering when he was going through some of the requests for both Operations and Engineering, where he saw a request from the Chief Flight Officer up on the Bridge. Ranul pulled up the request to see what might've been going on and saw that it was something simple, but something important as well. The navigation systems were having a longer lag time in moving the ship and that wasn't good in moments when the ship needed to move and quickly.
Ranul went over to the nearest turbolift after getting an engineering kit from a nearby storage locker. Once the doors closed, Ranul said, "Main Bridge, direct route." The turbolift complied within an instant and it wasn't too long before Ranul was deposited onto the Bridge. Stepping out onto it, Ranul looked around the Bridge to see who was currently working at the Conn.
Walking over to the Conn, Ranul held up a PADD and asked, "I'm looking for a....Ensign Wysocki? Know where I might be able to find them?"
"Over here Lieutenant," Socks raised his hand briefly enough for the Lieutenant to see him. He manned the conn while his hands inputted additional commands.
Walking over, Ranul introduced himself and said, "Hey, I'm Lieutenant Frex, the Chief Engineer. I saw that you put in some reqs for the navigation system. Thought I'd come on up here to see what I could do to help out."
"Well," Socks looked over at the Chief Engineer, "The responsiveness of the impulse drives are down minus zero point forty-three-point-eight percent in terms of response. I feel if we get into another firefight where I have to push the Blackhawk to the limits, that minus in response time is going to have... not good results..."
"Yeah, that's not good! Mind if I take a look at your station?" Ranul asked Socks, wanting to test the interface at Conn to see if it was a bad circuit in that console or if it was something else.
"Of course, Lieutenant. Just give me a moment to wrap things up on here," Socks' fingers traced over the LCARS interface very briefly before standing opposite of the chair. He gestured for him to sit down, "All yours, Lieutenant."
Ranul took a seat at the console and grabbed a few things out of his engineering kit, including a tricorder. He started to scan the console and took some readings. While he waited for the tricorder to get some information, Ranul turned to Socks and said, "So, how long have you been onboard the ship?"
"I believe you and I have been onboard the Hawk for approximately the same amount of time," Socks answered, "so not very long."
"I can relate to that feeling then. I'm just glad that I've gotten to meet some amazing people, like yourself!" Ranul said with a smile before turning back to working on the console. For one more brief moment, he looked at Socks and said, "What made you want to fly Starships?"
Socks shrugged his shoulders, "I just do? Never, really, gave it much thought."
Ranul chuckled as he worked a little bit more on the console and put in some commands. He looked back at Socks before replying, "Did you have someone in your family that flew starships or anything?"
"No," Socks continued, "Ranjen Shalar more than likely tell you it was always the Prophets will for me to explore on the opposite end of the Celestial Temple. Guess that's maybe a bit accurate?"
"I actually like that a lot. While I may not be a follower like yourself, that's an awesome way to look at it all," Ranul replied with a smile on his face. He put in a few more commands into the console and said, "Give this a try really quick. I want to see what else I need to do with the interface."
Socks swapped out with the Lieutenant at the station while he looked over the interface and his fingers traced and brought different menu items and screens up relatively quickly, "Much better responsive time. Thanks."
Ranul pointed at the console in front of Socks with one of his tools and said, "It looks like everything should be good! But, if something isn't quite right, just let me know and I can tweak the system a little bit more. Luckily enough, it was just coming from the station and not the entire navigational array. That wouldn't be fun in a time when we truly need it all the most."
"Of course, I'll keep you posted if I need anything else."
