Endgame

Timeline: MD 11 || 1230 Hours (Backpost)
Joey was exhausted... physically, mentally and emotionally. She was absolutely certain she wasn't the only one in that boat, but after everything that happened... it'd be nice to go over reports and take a momentary breather. Picking up a PADD, she punched in her access code and began to read through them, stopping at one that caught her attention. As she read it, the blood drained from her face.
What the hell?
Jackson made a second attempt to escape, AND someone had been injured in the process? Oh, heads were going to roll. The anger she felt boiled in her stomach, stemming out in all directions until she felt as though she'd explode with rage. She couldn't deal with the situation at the moment. Joey needed to give herself the chance to calm down. It was safer for everyone.
Jayla was also angry. After calmly asking Dani why she hadn't returned to duty after tending to the patient in the brig, she had found out about the incident. And then wondered why security had not informed her. After checking to make sure she hadn't missed a message, she became even angrier. Such and oversight! She could have checked on her nurse and made sure she was okay, but she had not been informed of what had happened.
So, she headed down to security to find out what was going on. She barged in and didn't even ask to speak to the acting chief of security, just made her way into the office and demanded, "can you tell me why nobody informed me that my nurse was attacked?"
Joey looked to the woman who decided to barge into her office and arched a brow as she slowly rose to her feet. "Who the hell do you think you are barging into my office and making demands of me like you have every right? Turn yourself around, walk out the door, then announce yourself like a civilized being would."
Jayla's eyes blazed at that. "I will not be treated like a child!" she retorted hotly. "Especially since this whole thing is the fault of your department!"
"At least I stick around long enough to run my department," Joey shot back, leaning forward to place her hands on her desk. The fury raged inside of her. Being approached like this... in the mood she was in... "What's it going to be next time? A stubbed toe? Ingrown nail? Or maybe you'll decide to make use of the miracles 24th century medicine have provided us and do your job."
"And for your information, I only just found out about the incident right before you came flying in here like you have no sense," Corwin snapped. "I was on the bridge dealing with the shitstorm that came in the form of two Confederation ships. And since you so graciously decided to approach the matter as you did, perhaps you should take a look at some of your personnel before you try to get into the affairs of mine."
"I had a concussion!" Jayla shouted. "And don't you worry about my personnel! I'll take care of them myself. Yours however, are obviously in need of a review of their training if they haven't reported something so important to their superior officer. I'd look into that if I were you."
"I think maybe you should have your head re-examined, Doctor. Did you not hear the part where I mentioned being in the bridge keeping you, and everyone else on this ship, alive?" the taller woman demanded. "And before you even attempt to say a damn thing about my assistant Chief, she was also running weapons. As for the report, it has a timestamp on it. I'll review the security footage and find out when this incident took place, then compare the two."
Joey was growing increasingly angry as the seconds ticked by. "The matter will be dealt with accordingly, and if that isn't enough for you, then I suggest you find a way to make it enough. If you're finished acting like a petulant child in need of her teddy bear and a nap, you can vacate my office. I've got more important things to deal with right now."
"Fine!" sneered Jayla. "It's not much fun having a conversation with someone whose bra size is bigger than her IQ anyway!" And with that final caustic remark, she turned on her heal to storm out of the office.
If the doctor thought she was going to get away with that comment, she was sadly mistaken. Joey moved from around her desk and out the door. Security was relatively empty save for a couple personnel who'd come to file their reports for the day. "I'm not even going to bother to stoop to your level, but I must say you've impressed me, Doc. You exude class. Keep it up. I'm sure some day you'll be a real winner."
With that, she turned and walked back into her office. Joey was so angry she was beginning to shake, and her day wasn't over yet. There were still a few matters left to be dealt with. Maybe, if she was lucky, she'd make it through the rest of the day without incident.
